Jamison has crowd on their feet at Cedar County Fair
By Robin Schneiderman
TIPTON, IA (July 13) - Sprint cars were certainly the main attraction at the
Cedar County Fair in Tipton, Iowa on Friday, July 13th. And, the Ideal Ready Mix
Sprint Invaders were certainly there to wow the crowd. Flyin’ Ryan Jamison lived
up to his nickname as he won his first A feature of the 2007 season. The
2002/2006 Sprint Invaders Champion was all smiles after his Jamison Racing/Curry
Transportation/Whitey’s Bar & Grill/Buddies Auto & Trailer Sales 51J took the
double checkers in the 25 lap feature. After winning the Storm Steel/Abrasive
Jet Technologies third heat and finishing second in the Holtkamp Trailer Repair
Shake-Up Dash, he held the pole position going into the event.
“The car was awesome,” stated Jamison post race, “I can’t believe I’ve never run
here before, it’s a great little track. I’d never even seen the place before
tonight!” Jamison also received the “Four Corner Award” from Boubin Tire &
Wheel/American Racer for winning with American Racer Tires all around the car.
“You don’t have to tell me twice,” the elated Jamison added, “that’s what our
contingency program is all about.”
Korey Weyant in his Laidlaw Education Services 99W scored his best finish of
2007 as runner up. The Springfield, Illinois driver finished second in the E.G.
Staats & Company Heat and third in the Shake-Up Dash. “This is just like running
at home,” claimed Weyant, who was a former regular at Jacksonville Raceway, “we
like these small tracks, it’s what we’re best at.”
Jerrod Hull in the #12 Lighthouse Christian Center/Red Brick
Transportation/Midland Performance/Automotive Machine finished third. Matt
Sutton’s #3 Grit Motorsports/S & S Shortstop/Thom’s Autobody machine was the KSE
Racing Products Hard Charger. Sutton and Shake-Up Dash Winner, Kaley “3*” Gharst
rounded out the top 5. Knoxville regular, Natalie Sather, in the Gateway Motors
#94S won the Golden Eagle Distributing/Budweiser Heat #2.
Stepping out of retirement for one night, the former “Voice of the Sprint
Invaders” Rusty Rogerson provided the color commentary for the event keeping the
crowd entertained during the few times during the night when the action wasn’t
fast and furious on the track. Don Williams, official starter for the Ideal
Ready Mix Sprint Invaders had a few “hold your breath” moments when just as the
“one to go” was given from the flag stand, lights went out on half the track
halting the action for about ten minutes at the start of the A Main. The problem
was quickly resolved and the action resumed. “This is a great racetrack,” stated
Williams, “it’s by far our best Fair crowd yet. These folks were really enjoying
the night; they were even on their feet and clapping during hot laps. I want to
thank the Cedar County Fair Board for having us here tonight. They were terrific
to work with. The drivers had great starts and the four-abreast lap was their
best so far this year – even on this short track. What an exciting night.”
After five events in eleven days, the Ideal Ready Mix Sprint Invaders will have
one more big event in July with a return trip to Morgan County Speedway in
Jacksonville, Illinois on Friday, July 20th. The evening will begin with the
completion of the show from May 18th by running the B and A. A complete show
will follow. Lineups from the May 18th races are available at
www.sprintinvaders.com. No additional cars will be allowed to compete in the
remainder of that show, but all others will be welcomed into the full show that
follows.
