Two-race weekend brings special sponsors for John Hall
by: Stacy ErvinMARION, IA (July 13) - John Hall and the Left Turn
Enterprises racing team completed a two-race weekend, competing at the
Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, on Saturday, July 12, and at the
Sprint Invaders Association race at the Cedar County Fair in Tipton, Iowa,
on Sunday, July 13. Hall, a racing veteran from Marion, pilots the red and
black No. 7H in the 360 sprint-car division.
At Knoxville, Hall continued to struggle with handling problems that have
plagued the team since the season began. Starting fifth in his heat race by
virtue of an unfortunate draw for starting position, he wound up seventh in
the seven-lap race on a difficult track. That put him in the 12th spot for
the night's consolation event. He called his night finished after only six
of the 10 laps in that event and was credited with a 15th place finish.
Unfortunately, that did not qualify him for the night's main event.
Though the track at Tipton is much different than the track at Knoxville,
problems still plagued the team. Hall started fifth in his heat race and
finished sixth. He started 16th in the night's A-main, but spun on the
eighth lap of the 25-lap race to bring out a caution flag.
Restarting at the tail of the field, he raced back to an 18th-place finish.
For the Tipton race, the team welcomed Iowa Senator Jim Hahn and
Representative Jeff Kaufmann as special sponsors. As part of the special
appearance, Hahn and Kaufmann, who are both seeking re-election to the Iowa
legislature this November, formed a partnership with the team. Both
legislators serve Cedar County, as well as portions of Muscatine and Johnson
counties.
Hahn, a Republican from Muscatine, will be seeking his second term in
District 40 of the Iowa Senate. Before being elected to the seat in 2004, he
served as a state representative from 1990 to 2004. He currently serves as
the ranking member of the Administration and Regulation committee and also
serves on committees for Appropriations, Economic Growth, Labor and Business
Relations and State Government. Hahn is in real-estate sales and was
formerly an insurance adjuster and property management specialist. He also
farmed a family hog operation, and has connections to a family fruit and
vegetable sales operation and a family sand and gravel ready mix business.
Kaufmann, a Republican from Wilton, will be seeking his third term in
District 79 of the Iowa House of Representatives. Now the assistant minority
leader, he was first elected in 2004 and was re-elected in 2006. He
currently serves as the ranking member of the Local Government committee and
also serves on committees for Administration and Rules, Education, State
Government and Ways and Means. Kaufmann is a seventh-generation livestock
farmer on his family's Century Farm and is a department chair and professor
at Muscatine Community College.
The race car is owned by Charles and Doris Hall. Crew members are Darrell
Bonesteel, Cole Page, Cass Page and Steve Lindell. Regular sponsors include
Maxim Racing, Parker Engines, APC Emmert Metal Fabricators, Super Shox,
Chalk Stix Torsion Bars, Marion Dairy Queen, Brake Man Brake Systems,
Thompson Aero Service and Seal-It International.
The team is actively seeking additional funding to help with its racing
effort. Potential sponsors or racing fans who just want to help out a
