Hockett Takes ASCS Western World Championship; Completes
Three Night Sweep!

PHOENIX, Ariz. (Nov 8) – Jesse Hockett completed the weekend
trifecta of Discount Tire Co. American Sprint Car Series Canyon Region
competition by wiring the field in Saturday night's 30-lap championship
finale of the Parker Store ASCS Non-Wing Western World Championships atop
Manzanita Speedway's 1/3-mile clay oval.
Hockett rode a perilous cushion to perfection and denied a late bid from
ASCS Canyon Region champion Jeremy Sherman to pocket Saturday night's $3,000
winner's share, running his weekend ASCS earnings to $6,000 after topping
preliminary features on both Thursday and Friday as well.
Hockett and Sherman were chased to the stripe by Casey Shuman, who slid past
Nathan High for third on the 28th lap, with Andrew Reinbold rounding out the
top five.
"That little track is a lot of fun, and it's a lot faster than most people
think," Hockett commented from victory lane. "And they had it just the way I
like it tonight."
Hockett gunned into the lead from the pole position at the outset and paced
the entire distance aboard the Massey Motorsports No. 2az machine.
"We just rebuilt this car and it worked great, Jim (Massey) always gives me
a great car," Hockett explained. "Jim is always great for us, Parker Store
helps us out, it seems like we have a lot of great sponsors out here in
Phoenix so it's pretty awesome to win this for all of 'em."
Sherman took second away from Gary Taylor following a lap nine restart and
had a shot at Hockett following the race's final caution after 21 laps for a
tangle that eliminated Taylor and Charles Davis, Jr.
Sherman closed in on Hockett with a handful of laps remaining, but Hockett
worked lapped traffic to perfection to secure the triumph and deny Sherman
his 15th ASCS Canyon Region feature win of the season.
Sherman still collected his second consecutive ASCS Canyon Region crown in
Fred Bryan's F&E Development No. 77, with Shuman's late move netting show
honors in Rex Foster's No. 32.
Nathan High settled for a strong fourth place run in Robbie Allen's ABC Body
Shop No. 12, with Reinbold fifth in the AME Electrical Contracting No. 19.
After transferring from the tail of the second "B" Main, Brady Bacon charged
from 16th to claim sixth, with second "B" Main winner Bobby Marcum in
seventh.
Originally crossing the stripe in sixth, Mike Leslie was credited with
eighth after being docked two positions for hitting the cone on the final
restart, with first "B" Main winner R.J. Johnson and Johnathon Henry
completing the top ten.
Prior to the Taylor-Davis tangle with 21 laps in the books, the feature was
interrupted on just a pair of occasions. The first caution flew after five
laps for a Nick Aiuto spin, with the second yellow appearing four laps later
for Justin Grant. Shon Deskins tumbled in turn three on the ensuing restart,
walking away uninjured.
