Three-day Weekend and Bus Trips in Store for Sprint Invaders!

WEST BURLINGTON, IA (February 13, 2009) – The 2009 season is
stacking up to be the best yet for the Ideal Ready Mix Sprint Invaders. A
couple of season highlights include a three-day September weekend of racing
in Illinois, and the return of the popular bus trips to a pair of events!
A popular three-day weekend of racing in Illinois was derailed a bit by
weather last September, but hopefully, this year’s edition will go clean and
green. On Friday, September 11, the sprint car series visits the Morgan
County Speedway in Jacksonville for the “Herb Barlow Memorial”. The popular
event showcases not only the sprint cars, but the POWRi midget series,
making for one of the most popular open-wheel doubleheaders in the country.
Josh Schneiderman is the defending champion of the September event in
Jacksonville.
The Invaders will then travel north on Saturday to the Spoon River Speedway
near Canton, where the extreme high-banked 3/8 mile oval plays host to the
“Tom Knowles Memorial”. The popular event is another open-wheel fan’s dream,
as the midgets will again piggyback as part of the program. The event has
seen a “Who’s Who?” of victors over the years including the late great Kevin
Doty, Donnie Beechler, Gary Wright, Jay Drake, Terry McCarl, Steve Knepper,
Terry Gray, Dan Boorse and all-time Sprint Invaders feature winner, Jerrod
Hull, just to name a few! Last year, it was 17 year old Jordan Goldesberry
who claimed his first career win in the event.
Sunday, September 13, Quincy Raceways will play host to the Ideal Ready Mix
Sprint Invaders. The series had several races scheduled for the newly
configured 3/8 mile facility in 2008, but all were cancelled by weather. The
track should make for an entertaining end to the weekend. Ricky Logan and
Matt Sutton held wins with the Sprint Invaders at the older version of the
racetrack in Quincy.
Bus Trips Return!
The first Sprint Invaders bus trip ever commenced last September. The bus
traveled from the Burlington area to Moline, Illinois for a race at the Quad
City Raceway. For one small fee, fans were treated to the ride, their
ticket, and prizes along the way! The trip was such a success, that two more
are planned for 2009!
The first will be on Sunday, June 28, when the Sprint Invaders return to the
high-banked mile Quad City Raceway in Moline. The second will take place
in conjunction with the “Tom Knowles Memorial” at the Spoon River Speedway
on Saturday, September 12. That trip will also include a stop in Illinois.
