By Sam Stoecklin, Media Relations

WARRENSBURG, MO. (April 12) - Despite the United Late Model Association (ULMA) being in its first year of operation there will be a Rookie of the Year who will be recognized at the end of the year association banquet, which is planned for October 20th. Requirements to qualify and compete for the title of ULMA Rookie of the Year are as follows: 1) Drivers may not have participated in more than 5 races in a Late Model; 2) Drivers must register with ULMA as a Rookie and possess a valid ULMA membership license. All contingency awards and/or cash prizes will be awarded to the driver who finishes the highest in the ULMA championship standings at the end of the points-earning season on September 8th. Member drivers who are eligible are highly encouraged to submit their intention to run for Rookie of the Year to the association as soon as possible. To date, David Angell of Holden, MO; Jerry Lee Henson Jr. of Adrian, MO; Aaron Todd of Holts Summit, MO; Jason Sivils of Springfield, MO; and A.L. Barbour of California, MO are the drivers who will be gunning for Rookie of the Year.

So far this season it has been a challenge for many tracks to get their racing seasons underway due to the unseasonably cold weather and extensive rainfall. Because of the latest cancellation, the ULMA points-earning season will now have to wait an additional week. The first race of the season for ULMA members to earn points will be next Friday, April 20th at Callaway Raceway in Fulton, MO. Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, MO, opens their regular season the following night on the 21st. The other two ULMA-associated tracks, Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, MO, and Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) in Warrensburg, MO, will get their seasons underway the following weekend on Friday, April 27th and Saturday, April 28th respectively.

Official pre-entry forms are now available on the ULMA Website and are being accepted for the Memorial Day Weekend Duel Showdown, which will be held at Valley Speedway and CMS, on Friday, May 25th and Saturday, May 26th. Bonus money and contingency awards will be handed out on night two at CMS to the overall top performers from the two nights of consecutive racing using a special two-race point’s scheme. Be sure to e-mail the association or visit the Website for more information on this fast-approaching event.
