Schlup and Rollert Continue ULMA Hot Streaks as Drivers
Prepare for Two End-of-Year Specials!
Sam Stoecklin - ULMA Media Relations
WARRENSBURG, MO (Aug 28) - Another weekend of racing action is now in the books
for the United Late Model Association (ULMA) drivers as the season quickly winds
down. There are now just seven possible points-earning races remaining for
drivers to improve upon their 15 best performances. Valley Speedway and Central
Missouri Speedway (CMS) each have two nights remaining with Callaway Raceway
having one night remaining with double features. Lucas Oil Speedway has just one
night remaining for ULMA points. All four affiliated tracks will be in operation
this weekend as the title hunt goes down to the wire between Brett Rollert and
Jason Estes. As a result of his sixth overall win at Valley Speedway last Friday
and a third-place run at CMS on Saturday, Rollert extended his points lead back
to 8 points heading into this weekend’s action over Estes. Last Friday night at
Valley Estes seemed to have the win in the bag but wound up with a third-place
run and then a DNF on Saturday at CMS after mechanical troubles eliminated him
from competition. Like Rollert, Jeff Schlup earned his sixth series victory on
the year at Lucas Oil Speedway last Saturday night; his fourth victory at the
state-of-the-art facility. Schlup also has two wins at Callaway Raceway, which
was once again rained out on Friday. At press time, Callaway still had plans to
make up the feature races that were rained out the previous weekend.
Jim Adkins of Kansas City continued his string of strong runs at Valley Speedway
on Friday as he nearly won the 20-lap feature, only to be passed off of corner
four at the checkers by Rollert and ultimately finishing in second at the line.
Adkins has two more weeks at Valley to find his way to victory lane and will
surely contend for the win if he keeps running like he has been. One thing that
has not been accomplished by any driver this season is winning two races in one
weekend. Schlup, Estes, Rollert and Kevin Kaiser have come close but those
bragging rights are still on the tables with a few weeks left. At Valley, ULMA
members swept the top five positions with Rollert, Adkins, Estes, Kevin Coyne,
and Jon Binning adding to their season best finishes. Brett Wood and James
Rutledge also secured top ten finishes at Valley. Binning garnered his second
top five of the weekend with a nice second-place run at CMS on Saturday night.
In one of his most impressive runs so far this year, rookie of the year
contender David Angell raced his way to a fifth-place finish Saturday at CMS
with a smooth driving performance. Fellow rookie of the year contender Brett
Wood was the only other ULMA member inside the top 10 at CMS with a ninth-place
finish. Danny Lorton and Walt Imhoff capped off their weekends with top five
performances of third and fifth respectively at Lucas Oil Speedway with Shawn
Williams and Jason Sivils also inside the top ten.
Hot off the recent announcement that ULMA drivers will compete at LA Raceway in
a special non-points event on Saturday, September 15th, the association is now
pleased to announce that it will also be in competition in another non-points
race the following weekend, on Saturday, September 22nd at Nevada Speedway in
Nevada, Missouri. Further details on this race will be announced very soon so be
sure to check on the ULMA Website for developing information about this race.
The ULMA drivers will be competing for $1,000-to-win at both tracks for each of
these special events! The LA Raceway event, now known as the LA Raceway ULMA
Missouri State Championships will feature member drivers competing in a 25-lap
feature race with 24 cars starting! This fan-friendly race will include a
driver's "Meet & Greet" and autograph session from 5:30 to 6:30 where the race
fans can meet their favorite ULMA drivers and take pictures by their cars, which
will be on display. Be sure to bring the kids early and your cameras too! A live
radio broadcast from the track will also take place during the Meet & Greet
session. All participating cars will be "pre-teched" by ULMA-designated
technical inspectors and must pass technical inspection prior to the events
getting underway. ULMA rules will be strictly enforced. Be sure to visit
www.ulmaracing.com for rules clarification and more information. Only ULMA
member drivers may compete in this special non-ULMA points-earning race. ULMA
membership forms are currently available on the ULMA Website or by requesting
them from unitedlatemodelassociation@hotmail.com. Non-members may join the
association anytime between now and the day of the event. Membership forms will
be available at the event for drivers wishing to join the association; the 2007
ULMA membership fee is $50. B-modifieds will also be competing at LA Raceway for
$460 to win! View the complete purse at www.laraceway.com. Race sponsors for the
LA race include John Rector Motors, BOB FM, Donco Fabrication and Machine, KIX
