SHRYOCK DOMINATES 2ND ANNUAL HOWARD COUNTY FAIR SUMMER CLASSIC
CRESCO, Iowa (June 21) -- Seven-time defending national champion Kelly Shryock
scored a dominating victory Sunday as the O’Reilly Auto Parts United States
Modified Touring Series invaded the Cresco (Iowa) Speedway for the 2nd Annual
Howard County Fair Summer Classic. The win, worth $2,000 to the Fertile, Iowa,
ace, was his 10th of the season in 22 starts and pushed his 2006 earnings to
more than $30,000.
Mark Noble of Blooming Prairie, Minn., led the first two laps before
surrendering the top spot to Shryock. From there, Noble was involved in a wild
multi-car battle for the second- through fifth-place positions. Zack VanderBeek
of New Sharon, Iowa, snared the runner-up paycheck for his best O’Reilly USMTS
finish of the season, while 11th-starting Jason Hughes of Colcord, Okla.,
finished third ahead of Noble.
Blooming Prairie, Minn.'s Tommy Myer gave the standing-room-only crowd a thrill
during the 35-lap main event. Coming from the 12th starting spot, Myer climbed
as high as third midway through the race, but jumped the cushion in turn 1 and
slipped all the way back to 10th. By race's end, however, Myer had clawed his
way back up to a fifth-place finish.
UP NEXT: The “Best of the Best” invade the Adams County Speedway in Corning,
Iowa, tomorrow (Thursday, June 22) for a tape-delayed nationally-televised
event. Seven nights of racing over eight days wraps up with a bang on Friday,
June 23, with the debut of the O’Reilly USMTS Modifieds at the Rapid Speedway in
Rock Rapids, Iowa.
