MUSKOGEE, Okla. (March 16) – The mud-slinging Modifieds of the USMTS keep on marching this weekend as they invade the Sooner State for a doubleheader this Friday, March 19, at the Outlaw Motor Speedway and Saturday, March 20, at the West Siloam Speedway. Both events are expected to attract a powerful field of entries as coveted points are awarded for both the USMTS Casey’s General Stores National Tour and USMTS Castle Rock Recruiting Southern Series – the only events on the 2010 calendar featuring both campaigns. Friday’s blockbuster show will be the first visit to the Outlaw Motor Speedway for the rugged USMTS road warriors since a two-race weekend on May 8-9, 2003, that saw Jason Hughes and Tommy Myer walk away victorious against a field of more than 60 competitors. An encore in May 2004 was thwarted by Mother Nature, making for a nearly seven-year hiatus since the USMTS Modifieds churned the clay of the 3/8-mile semi-banked oval in Oktaha, Okla. Less than 90 miles northeast, the too-tough-to-tame tour returns to the West Siloam Speedway near West Siloam Springs, Okla., on Saturday for the fourth straight year. Kelly Shryock won the first race at the 3/8-mile high-banked dirt oval on March 16, 2007, while Jay Noteboom was the winner on the second night of the doubleheader. Jason Krohn and Steve Holzkamper shared the winners circle in 2008 and Jason Hughes swept both nights of action last year en route to capturing his second consecutive USMTS Castle Rock Recruiting Southern Series crown. One of the most successful chassis builders in the business, Hughes’ race shop is located a few minutes down the road from the West Siloam track. He was the winningest USMTS driver in 2009, garnering nineteen feature race triumphs over the course of the season. He’s off to a fast start again in 2010 after recording three straight wins, including a sweep of last weekend’s two-day affair in Humboldt, Kan. Both events this coming weekend will be a battle in the Falcon Wind Power Mo-Kan Region for the USMTS Casey’s General Stores National Tour where Hughes leads the points standings over Brian Bolin, Shryock, Johnny Bone Jr., John Allen, Dan Daniels, Mark Dotson, Tommy Weder Jr., Dereck Ramirez and Zack VanderBeek. Hughes also sits atop the USMTS Castle Rock Recruiting Southern Series standings ahead of Terry Phillips, Jeremy Payne, John O Whittington, Bumper Jones, Morgan Bagley, Shryock, Ramirez, Shane Hebert and Holzkamper. Other USMTS drivers expected for this weekend’s shows are Jon Tesch, Scott Green, Rodney Sanders, Randy Timms, Grant Junghans, Chase Junghans, Johnny Scott, Bryan Rowland, Steven Whiteaker Jr., Howard Willis, Dustin Hyde, Brandon Davis, Lee Patton, Ryan Whitworth, Mark Noble, Rick Beebe, Tristan Dycus, Melvin Pilcher, Tracy Denby Jr., Colt Mather, Jon Mitchell, Austin Siebert, David Horner, Lucas Conley, Darrel Dawson, Nic Bidinger, Shane Killingsworth, Chris Deaton, Steve Miller, Mickey Burrell, Kyle Schmidt, Josh Griggs, Shawn Stephenson, Gary Langworthy Jr., Wes Armstrong, Kevin Battarbee, Danny Charles, Jamie Ragland, Mark Smith, Johnny Fennewald, Jay Sale, Danny Barringer, Cody Smith, Jeremy Gossett, Ben Stephens, Rory Jordan, Troy Seidl, Jerry Standifer, Nathan Bischel, Derick Grigsby, Kenny Battarbee, Kyle Anderson, Brent Nicholas, Randy Heston, Brad Lasater, John Webb, Chris Henigan, Hunter Rasdon, Brad Doherty, Chase Allen, Steve Pugh, Jeff Wood, Joshua Majek and more. Local aces expected to defend their home turf are defending Outlaw Motor Speedway track champion Joe Duvall, multi-time USMTS winner Greg Skaggs, Andy Morris, Dan Leatherman, Jared Russell, Lonnie Robins, Jeran Frailey, Dalton Clay, Joe Wright, Jarrod Havens and others. Both shows carry a $2,000 top prize with a minimum $250 to start the main event. For Friday’s second annual St. Patrick’s Day Bash, pit and grandstand gates open at 5 p.m., hot laps are at 7 and racing begins at 7:30. Pure Stocks, Hobby Stocks, 360 Modifieds and Grand Nationals will also be on the racing card.
