Gregoire grabs Dart Iron Man Challenge loot at Slayton SLAYTON, Minn. (Aug. 6) – Rich Gregoire of Russell bested the field of USRA Karl Chevrolet Stock Cars Friday night at the Murray County Speedway to become the eighth different winner in nine events for the newly-formed Dart Iron Man Challenge. Friday’s $1,000-to-win 20-lap main event put an exclamation point on a swing of five events over six days at six speedways in Iowa and Minnesota. Mike Bergan of Ridgeway, Iowa, nabbed the runner-up spot behind Gregoire, with Brad Lange of Prior Lake coming home third, Mike Van Genderen of Newton, Iowa, finishing fourth and Ocheyedan, Iowa’s Elijah Zevenbergen completing the top five finishers. Sixth through ninth went to John Schmidt, Chris Palsrok, Troy Winter and Shawn Bruns while Brent Fagen held off Tyler Fagen to round out the top-10. With nine events in the books and five remaining on the 2010 schedule, more than 100 drivers have competed in Dart Iron Man Challenge events during its inaugural season. Despite missing his first event this season, Nathan Wood continues atop the points standings with a four-point cushion (758 to 754) over Van Genderen. Steve Jackson is third with 690 markers, followed by Bergan (600), Greg Elliott (569), Ryan Leeman (424), Logan Staley (411), Jake Masters (370), Jim Mitchell (322) and Mark Elliott (277). Each driver’s 10 best points-earning performances will count toward the final year-end standings. Up next for the Dart Iron Man Challenge will be a trek to the historic Hamilton County Speedway in Webster City, Iowa. Gates open at 5:00, hot laps are at 6:30 and racing starts at 7:00. SportMods and B-Mods conforming to IMCA or USRA rules will also be on the racing card. Licensed USRA drivers will earn national points in the USRA Karl Performance Parts B-Mod division of American Racer USRA Weekly Racing Series. The Hamilton County Speedway is a semi-banked half-mile dirt oval located off of US 20 at exit 140, then 1.2 miles north, then 0.5 mile east on Bank St., then 0.4 mile south on Bluff St. (at the Hamilton County Fairgrounds). Production and camera crews will be on location at remaining 2010 events as they record the USMTS action for the upcoming Dirt Knights TV show. The much-anticipated TV show is set to debut in January of 2011 on the VERSUS cable network - the fastest growing cable sports network in the nation, which reaches more than 75 million households. Fourteen dates at twelve premier speedways throughout Iowa, Minnesota and Missouri dot the calendar for the inaugural campaign for the Dart Iron Man Challenge, which will accompany the popular USMTS Modifieds at each event. The points fund carries a $1,000 top prize with the 10th-place finisher earning $100. In addition, each race will award national points in the USRA Karl Chevrolet Stock Car division of the American Racer USRA Weekly Racing Series where the national champion will earn $700. Drivers are invited and encouraged to compete in all 14 shows, but perfect attendance is not be necessary to be eligible for the year-end points funds. A USRA license is not required to compete and/or earn points in the Dart Iron Man Challenge, but only USRA-licensed drivers will be eligible for points funds in either the Dart Iron Man Challenge or American Racer USRA Weekly Racing Series. Each event will have a qualifying format similar to the USMTS, with heat race passing points determining the “B” Main and “A” Main line-ups. USRA rules will apply at each event. Drivers are permitted to utilize the Rochester, Motorcraft or 1¾ Holley 4412 open carburetor but must be run with the Edelbrock Performer (Part #2701) or Weiand X-CELerator (Part ##7541) intake manifold. These intakes must be stock (no porting allowed). The 4412 carb must be stock and must be 1-11/16. For conforming to IMCA rules, the 350 carb is allowed with a 2,800-pound weight rule.
