Wallace
seeking USMTS glory this weekend
CONCORD, N.C. (March 8) - Kenny Wallace is a favorite among NASCAR faithful
and racing fans everywhere. He is a successful driver, racetrack owner and
television personality, but the 47-year-old is looking to add one more
feather to his cap in 2011.
Wallace will be looking to capture his first checkered flag with the United
States Modified Touring Series when the USMTS Casey’s General Stores
National Tour powered by Swan Energy invades the Mid America Speedway in
South Coffeyville, Okla., on Friday, March 11, and Humboldt Speedway in
Humboldt, Kan., on Saturday, March 12.
Friday's event at the Mid America Speedway will be Wallace’s 41st career
start with the USMTS. Saturday’s appearance at Humboldt will be his sixth at
the exciting high-banked bullring.
“Every time that I race at Humboldt, the people are nice and the competition
is tough,” said Wallace, who scored his second consecutive top-ten finish
with the NASCAR Nationwide Series this past weekend at the Las Vegas Motor
Speedway. “The USMTS series is the NASCAR Sprint Cup of Modified racing in
the United States. I really respect the drivers and the officials in the
USMTS.”
After 40 starts over the course of the last three seasons, “The Hermanator”
has 17 top-ten finishes with three of those inside the top five. His two
runner-up finishes came in 2009 when he ran second to Jon Tesch at the Park
Jefferson Speedway on June 16, then followed Ryan Ruter to the checkers
eight days later at the I-35 Speedway in Mason City, Iowa.
While one of the career leaders in starts and top-ten finishes, Wallace is
the only driver to have won the NASCAR Nationwide Series Most Popular Driver
Award three times.
And although he cut his teeth racing on asphalt, he also has an admirable
résumé of racing on the dirt. He was the winner of the first Prelude To The
Dream charity race at Tony Stewart’s Eldora Speedway, and has numerous wins
in a Modified at Volusia Speedway Park during the Florida Winter Nationals.
The younger brother of former NASCAR drivers Rusty and Mike Wallace
currently drives the #09 Federated Auto Parts Toyota Camry for RB Racing in
the NASCAR Nationwide Series, and also works as an on-air personality for
SPEED Channel.
Racing begins at 8 p.m. on Friday at the Mid America Speedway while the
first heat race takes to the track at 7 p.m. Saturday at Humboldt.
The Mid America Speedway is located 1.0 mile south of the Kansas-Oklahoma
state line on US 169, then 0.7 mile west (across railroad tracks). For more
