BAKKEN, SCHMITT, BROWN, HADACEK, BAKER, FETT CLAIM 2006 TRACK
CHAMPIONSHIPS AT PRITCHARD FAMILY AUTO STORES HANCOCK COUNTY SPEEDWAY
BY: Jeff Nun
BRITT, IA (Sept. 7, 2006) - With the 2006 season coming to a close at the
Pritchard Family Auto Stores Hancock County Speedway, six new drivers emerged as
USRA Casey's General Stores Weekly Racing Series track champions for the 2006
season at the Britt, Iowa, speedplant.
In the high-powered USRA Modified division, Brad Bakken of Garner concluded a
dominating season with his first track championship. Bakken, who finished second
the points last season, won an impressive nine of the 15 USRA Modified races
this season, and bested Algona's Ed Green for the crown. Clint Wendel of Mason
City finished third in the final standings, followed by Doug Doocy of Lone Rock
and T.J. Stalker of Mason City.
In the USRA Stock Car class, Tom Schmitt of Independence made the Pritchard
Family Auto Stores Hancock County Speedway a regular Friday night stop during
2006 and parlayed seven main event wins into a track championship. Schmitt
finished 45 points ahead of Forest City's Jeff Dolphin, who raced to three
victories during the 2006 campaign but settled for the runner-up spot in the
points for the second straight year. Ryan Hiscocks of Britt finished third, John
Campbell of Belmond was fourth and Renwick's Chad Palmer rounded out the top
five.
Logan Brown finished just a handful of points outside of the top-10 in last
season's final USRA B-Modified points, but the Messervey youngster used two wins
an consistent finishes this season to emerge as the 2006 track champion. Brown
sealed the title with two laps to go in the final points race of the season
where he finished seventh while Manly's J.J. Wise finished third. Brown's margin
of victory over Wise was just four points. Defending track champion Jake Simpson
of Algona wound up third in the final standings, with Jamie Anderson of Mason
City fourth and Jesse Hoeft of Forest City in fifth. All of the top five drivers
were in contention for the crown entering the Aug. 25 finale.
The battle for the USRA Hobby Stock title also came down to the wire, and it
took a little luck -- good or bad, depending on which side you were on -- for
Britt's Randy Hadacek to lay claim to the title. Trailing Algona's Michael
Schadendorf by nine points going into the final main event of the season,
Hadacek got the feature win to earn the maximum points possible and forcing
Schadendorf to finish second in order to secure the title. While running third,
however, Schadendorf was knocked out of the race by another car and his hopes
for a title were dashed. A third-place finish would have resulted in a tie for
the points lead, but Hadacek would have been crowned the champion based on his
five wins to Schadendorf's one. Tony Smidt of Britt finished third in the final
standings, with Chris Monson of Clear Lake fourth and Chad Gentz of Forest City
in fifth.
In the Hornet division, Matt Baker of Britt captured the Senior Hornet crown
over Algona's Brandon Ostwald. The Junior Hornet track championship went to
Colby Fett of Thompson, who won seven feature races in 2006.
Next up will the season-ending awards banquet with time and place to be
announced. The schedule for the 2007 season at the Pritchard Family Auto Stores
Hancock County Speedway will be announced before year's end.
