ADDITIONAL DATES ADDED TO WORLD DIRT RACING
LEAGUE SCHEDULE
Events at Menomonie and Arcadia, Wisconsin give series 29 race dates
By Tom Lathen
Gilman City, MO (March 12, 2006) - Two additional dates have been added to the
2006 WORLD Dirt Racing League PolyDome Late Model Series Schedule.
According to Jim Wilson, founder and President of the Gilman City,
Missouri-based series, WDRL drivers will compete at Red Cedar Speedway in
Menomonie, Wisconsin on Wednesday, June 14 and at Fox Ridge Speedway in Arcadia,
Wisconsin on Wednesday, August 9. Chris Stepan, owner of FYE Motorsports, will
promote both events.
“These two race dates are tremendous additions to an already strong 2006
schedule,” noted Wilson.
“Anyone who saw the PolyDome Late Model Series race at Menomonie a few years ago
knows that race track can provide some unbelievable competition,” he added. “And
with the dirt work being done at Fox Ridge Speedway this spring, our race there
in August should be absolutely fantastic.”
The 50-lap event at Red Cedar Speedway on June 14 will open a four-night weekend
swing that also includes a date at Superior Speedway in Superior, Wisconsin and
the two-night Masters at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wisconsin. The
Wednesday and Thursday dates at Menomonie and Superior will pay $5,000 to the
winner, with both nights of the Masters providing $10,000 pay checks to the
winner.
The last time series drivers tackled the west central Wisconsin 3/8-mile
semi-banked fairgrounds oval, in August of 2003, the event proved to be one of
the most exciting races in series history. The 50-lap event went flag-to-flag
without a caution, with two-time WDRL champion Kyle Berck, Iowa’s Brian
Birkhofer, Brady Smith, local hot-shoe Tony Bahr, and eventual winner Pat Doar
chasing each other through lapped traffic over the final 20 circuits in front of
a large and appreciative crowd.
The August 9 event at Fox Ridge Speedway, meanwhile, fills in the vacant date in
the traditional early August WDRL Northern Swing. This year’s swing opens on
Monday, August 7 at Superior Speedway, before moving to Viking Speedway in
Alexandria, Minnesota on Tuesday, August 8. Following the August 9 stop in
Arcadia, the four-night swing concludes with the annual Pretzel City Showdown at
Freeport Raceway Park in Freeport, Illinois.
Series drivers last appeared at Fox Ridge Speedway on June 4, 2004, with Brady
Smith picking up the 50-lap victory.
The two additions to the schedule give the popular fifth-year series 29 race
dates on the 2006 docket. Of those 29 events, ten will be contested in Iowa, six
will be held in both Nebraska and Wisconsin, with three being held in Illinois,
and two each in Minnesota and Kansas.
