GILMAN CITY, MO. (Sept. 28, 2006) -- Officials of the WORLD Dirt Racing League
PolyDome Late Model Series and Nebraska Raceway Park have worked out the final
details for the rescheduling of the second night of the annual Cornhusker
Classic, which fell victim to rain on Sept. 23.
The event, at I-80 Speedway at Greenwood, Neb., will be held on Sunday, Oct. 8,
directly following the WDRL's two-day Al Frieden Memorial and Liberty Fall
Classic at West Liberty Raceway in West Liberty, Iowa, which are slated for
Friday and Saturday, Oct. 6 and 7.
Due to time constraints, group qualifying will not be held, with drivers drawing
for their qualifying race starting positions. Hot laps are set to get underway
at approximately 5 p.m. Oct. 8, with qualifying race action scheduled for a 5:30
p.m. start.
In addition to a full PolyDome Late Model Series program, the rescheduled event
will also include consolation and feature races in the Hobby Stock, Pro Stock
and Modified divisions, which were also washed out on Sept. 23. The IMCA/CNTCA
Late Model and Grand National feature races from Sept. 23 have been rescheduled
for Saturday, Oct. 7, as part of the facility's Cornhusker Nationals.
The opening night of the popular late September event at the eastern Nebraska
speed plant went off as scheduled, but persistent rain shower activity in the
area forced the postponement of the Saturday night, Sept. 23, 50-lap,
$5,000-to-win Cornhusker Classic finale.
According to Tom Gutowski, general manager of I-80 Speedway, grandstand
admission for the rescheduled Cornhusker Classic has been reduced to $20 for
adults and $15 for students, with children ages 10 and under being admitted free
of charge. Anyone holding a grandstand admission pass from Sept. 23 will receive
one ticket plus a $10 cash refund.
Gutowski says pit passes from the Sept. 23 rain out will be honored on "a
one-for-one basis" for new pit passes.
Fans, drivers and crew members who cannot attend the rescheduled event may
receive a refund by mailing their grandstand tickets or pit gate wristbands,
along with a stamped, self-addressed envelope to I-80 Speedway Refund, 5040 I
Street, Omaha, NE 68117.
