Brady Smith wins WORLD Dirt Racing League event

SPRING VALLEY, Minn. (Sept. 1) - "The Duce," Brady Smith, on Saturday dominated the 50-lap WORLD Dirt Racing League PolyDome Late Model Series feature event here at Deer Creek Speedway. Once Smith worked his was into the lead, he never looked back, winning with more than a straightaway advantage.

Denny Eckrich brought the 24-car field to the green flag. Outside front-row starter Justin Fegers motored into the lead out of turn two. Smith followed Fegers around Eckrich and took second place.

Fegers and Smith ran nose to tail and pulled away from the rest of the field over the first 10 laps. As the lead duo started working through lapped traffic, Smith was able to sneak by into the lead in his number 2 car.

With Smith pulling away, the battle was on for second. Fegers and Eckrich raced side by side for several laps before Eckrich won that battle. Eckrich would continue in second until the race's end. Fegers finished third, and Eric Pember was fourth. Adam Hensel rounded out the top five.

"I can't say enough about my crew," Smith said in Amsoil Victory Lane. "They really gave me a great race car. It got a little racy trying to work through lapped traffic, but we could go anywhere."

"We pulled out the new car tonight," said Eckrich. "We had to do something to change our luck. It felt pretty good during the heat and the pole dash, and we really didn't make a whole lot of changes to the car."

Ditto for Fegers. "We just made a few adjustments," he admitted after running the Iowa Illinois Taylor Insulation Pole Dash. "The car felt pretty good. I knew track position would be a factor tonight, and we didn't want to do to much to the car for the dash."

Next up for the WORLD Dirt Racing League PolyDome Late Model Series is a trip tonight, Sunday, to the Quad City Raceway in East Moline, Ill.

Hot laps are set for 5 p.m. It will be the first-ever trip for the WDRL stars and cars to the tight quarter-mile oval.
