NEXT WEEK WILL BE A BUSY ONE FOR WDRL DRIVERS Appearances are set for April 16 in Davenport, April 19 in Freeport and April 20 in East Moline By Bucky Doren WORLD Dirt Racing League GILMAN CITY, MO. (April 11) - WORLD Dirt Racing League and Davenport Speedway officials on Thursday were forced to reschedule the 2008 WDRL Late Model Series opener. Due to the inclement weather Friday, April 11, the season kick-off will now fall on Wednesday, April 16. Pit gates will open at 2 p.m., and the grandstand will open at 5. Hot laps are set for 6 with qualifying at 6:30 p.m. Pro-Mods and Street Stocks will also be on the card that night. With their season opener under their belt, the cars and stars of the WORLD Dirt Racing League then will invade the Land of Lincoln for a double-header weekend of exciting dirt Late Model racing. On Saturday, April 19, the tour hits the ultra-fast Freeport Raceway Park in Freeport, Ill. Then on Sunday, April 20, it will be a door-to-door battle at Quad City Raceway in East Moline. Both nights of racing will feature the best dirt Late Model drivers in the Midwest. Freeport Raceway Park hosted four WDRL races in 2007, and four different drivers visited Victory Lane, indicating the level of competition. Darren Miller, Tommy Elston, Eric Pember and 2007 WDRL Rookie of the Year John Kaanta each took a win at the half-mile on Walnut Road just a quarter mile south of South Street and next to the Stephenson County Fairgrounds The track's Website is www.freeportracewaypark.com . Quad City Raceway was a new stop on the WORLD Dirt Racing League's tour in 2007.Ê John Kaanta held off Denny Eckrich in an exciting battle to win the feature. Racing action was fast and furious on the tight quarter-mile that saw only one yellow flag during the 50-lap affair. The Quad City Raceway is located at the Rock Island County Fairgrounds. Among those expected to be pitside for the weekend of racing in Freeport and East Moline are brothers Denny and Dave Eckrich, Rob Toland, Eric Pember, Tim Isenberg, Ace Ihm, Matt Furman, Jason Utter, Chad Simpson and Jeremy Grady.
