And on two different tracks in front of a single grandstand! That's what spectators will see here at Davenport Speedway this Friday night, May 23. The cars and stars of the WORLD Dirt Racing League, a Midwest-based Late Model touring series, will be competing for series points on the half-mile oval at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds. And International Motor Contest Association (IMCA) Late Models, which headline the weekly racing show at fairgrounds, will compete for weekly, state and national points on the quarter-mile Davenport Speedway oval. The unique event is being promoted by Bob and Julie Wagener of Drt Trak Racing and is sponsored by Aaron's Sales and Lease. WDRL kicked off its 2008 season on April 16 on the Davenport half mile. Darren Miller of Chadwick, Ill., took the win. Miller leads the current series point standings, followed in order by Tim Lance of Peoria, Ill.; Frank Heckenast Jr. of Orland Park, Ill.; Davenport native Brian Harris; and Chad Simpson of Mt. Vernon, Iowa. Ray Guss Jr. of Milan, Ill., has dominated IMCA Late Model features in this still-young 2008 season on the Davenport quarter mile, taking his second straight win last Friday night. Practice begins at 6 p.m. with qualifying set for 6:30 Friday night. The Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds is located at 2815 W. Locust St. For more information on the WORLD Dirt Racing League or the latest WDRL Late Model Series schedule, check out the WORLD Dirt Racing League's Web site, www.worldraceleague.com. |
