BRADY SMITH HOLDS OFF CHRIS SIMPSON FOR WDRL WIN AT DEER CREEK SPEEDWAY
Series now moves to Quad City Raceway in East Moline, Ill.

SPRING VALLEY, Minn. (August 31) - Despite a late-race yellow flag, Brady Smith held off a charge by Chris Simpson to claim the WORLD Dirt Racing League Late Model Series win here at Deer Creek Speedway.

Simpson, of Oxford, Iowa, and Smith, of Solon Springs, Wis., battled back and forth for the lead as the 40-lap feature began. Chad Simpson, of Mount Vernon, Iowa, ran third just behind the battle for the lead.

Chris Simpson eventually took over the top spot, but Smith stayed close, and the two worked heavy lapped traffic. Smith grabbed the lead when Simpson hopped the cushion while trying to deal with a lapped car.

A caution on lap 38 tightened the field, but Smith was able to hold off both Simpson brothers for the win.

"I wasn't saving the car," Smith said in Victory Lane. "I was giving it all I had. I hope the fans saw a great race. I think they did. You could run anywhere on the race track."

Smith talked about the pass for the lead through heavy lapped traffic.

"I learned a long time ago that you can't slow down for lapped traffic," Smith commented. "We got in there, and there was no contact. The move paid off.

"I'd like to dedicate this win to my daughter (Rowan)," Smith smiled. "It's her birthday today."

Chris Simpson finished second. Chad Simpson, Justin Fegers, and Eric Pember rounded out the top five.

Next up, the WDRL Late Model Series visits the Quad City Raceway in East Moline, Ill., tonight, Sunday, Aug. 31.

Then on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 5 & 6, the WDRL stars and cars hit the Freeport Raceway Park in Freeport, Ill., for "The Rebel."
