WORLD DIRT RACING LEAGUE RELEASES TENTATIVE 2009 SERIES
SCHEDULE
Series president Jim Wilson said additional races will be added later
GILMAN CITY, MO (Feb. 19, 2009) - The WORLD Dirt Racing League, a
Midwest-based dirt Late Model touring series, has released its tentative
2009 schedule.
"We are excited about the 2009 season, and though the schedule is a partial
one," we wanted to publicize it as soon as possible, said WDRL president Jim
Wilson, who with his wife Nancy founded the popular racing series in 2002.
Additional race dates will be added later, Wilson noted, resulting in some
"to be announced" track locations on the schedule.
"We've never put TBAs on our schedule before," Wilson said, "but we are
working with several more race tracks about scheduling races this season,
and wanted to let everyone know that there will be more races added before
long."
Bob Wagener will promote the WDRL season opener on Saturday, April 4, at
Davenport (Iowa) Speedway. That will also be the first race of the season
for the historic half-mile.
Quad City Raceway in East Moline, Ill., is up next for the touring stars and
cars. On Sunday, April 19, Brian Stuart is promoting a 50-lap WDRL race on
the fast and exciting quarter-mile oval there.
The WORLD Dirt Racing League heads west on Sunday, May 24, to I-80 Speedway
in Nebraska for the annual Alphabet Soup race.
Then, in June, WDRL drivers will make a stop at the beautiful North Central
Speedway in Brainerd, Minn., on Wednesday the 17th for a race promoted by
Tim Boeder. Then it's on to Butch Erickson's Superior Speedway in Superior,
Wis., on Thursday June 18.
Next up is the famous Cedar Lake Speedway at New Richmond, Wis., where
drivers will compete in the two big nights of competition at The Masters. A
50-lap main event is set for Friday night, June 19, and the prestigious and
exciting Masters 50-lap race is on Saturday, June 20.
On Sunday, July 12, WDRL will be on hand for the opening of the Boone County
Fair in Albion, Neb., and the popular race promoted by Dave Warner and the
Boone County Fair Board.
"We are working on a race for Monday, July 13, at I-80 Speedway and should
know about it soon," said Wilson.
From Nebraska, WDRL chauffeurs head back to Minnesota and Wisconsin for some
exciting racing. They'll be at Superior Speedway again on Wednesday, July
29, then they return to the famous Cedar Lake Speedway on Thursday, July 30.
On Labor Day weekend, the series is at the Queensland family's beautiful
Deer Creek Speedway on Saturday, Sept. 5, before heading back to Illinois
for racing on Sunday, Sept. 6, at Quad City Raceway in East Moline.
On Friday and Saturday, Oct. 9 and 10, the WORLD Dirt Racing League holds
its season finale in Davenport, Iowa, competing at the famous Governor's
Cup, which is being promoted by Brian Stuart.
Chad Simpson of Marion, Iowa, is the defending WDRL champion.
