EXCITEMENT IS BUILDING FOR THE
WORLD DIRT RACING LEAGUE SEASON OPENER
Top drivers are ready to compete Saturday, April 4, at Davenport (Iowa)
Speedway
GILMAN CITY, Mo. (March 27, 2009) -- The grass is getting green, and the
Davenport (Iowa) Speedway is getting ready to rumble on Saturday, April 4,
with the invasion of the Late Models of the Missouri-based WORLD Dirt Racing
League.
Spring has finally arrived, and the excitement at the WORLD Dirt Racing
League office couldn’t be any greater than it is right now, series officials
say.
"We are getting ready for our first race of the season, and things are
really coming together," said Jim Wilson, president of the popular dirt
track Late Model touring series.
"Rusty Daufeldt, our new marketing manager, is bringing some new people to
the table, we are signing on some new tracks, we are receiving more requests
for Chase Signs and Graphics Rookie of the Year applications and we are
looking forward to a great 2009 racing season.
"We always open our racing season the first Saturday in April," Wilson
added, "and it will be no different this year. We will compete at the
historic half-mile Davenport (Iowa) Speedway at the Mississippi Valley
Fairgrounds, a Quad-Cities institution since the 1920s, for the opener again
this year. So the tradition lives on."
The Davenport opener will be promoted by Bob Wagener of Drt Trak Racing, and
Pro Modifieds will compete in addition to a stellar field of WDRL Super Late
Models.
Wagener, who promotes weekly races on Davenport's quarter mile track, is
anxious to get his 2009 season started and notes that children 12 and under
will be admitted free to the WDRL race. He has reserved Friday night, April
10, as a rain date, if needed.
Pits open at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 4. Spectator gates open at 5,
practice is at 6:30 and the first race begins at 7.
When the green flag falls, Chad Simpson will be defending his 2008 WORLD
Dirt Racing League championship title. He will have his hands full as he
competes against both WDRL regulars and a lot of hot shoes who are moving up
to WDRL for the first time.
John Kaanta, Eric Pember and Dave and Denny Eckrich are expected to compete
as are Chris Simpson, Frank Heckenast, and many more. There will be several
Chase Signs and Graphics Rookie candidates to add to the mix in 2009, so it
will be an exciting year.
