ALBION, Neb. (July 5, 2009) - The stars and cars of the WORLD Dirt Racing League will be making their annual trip here to Boone County Raceway, known as the fastest track in northeast Nebraska, on Sunday, July 12, for the exciting 50-lap race on the opening day of the Boone County Fair. "Albion has always been a great supporter of racing and the WDRL, and it's a pleasure to go there every year," said WDRL's Jim Wilson. "Dave Warner and the staff of the Boone County Raceway always do a great job of hosting the race." Wilson added: "The people in and around Albion have always been strong supporters of the WDRL when we are in the area, with some traveling several hundred miles to see the WDRL drivers. So it’s like seeing old friends when we go there each year." The WORLD Dirt Racing League, a Midwest-based dirt track touring series that began in 2002, always draws a strong field of Super Late Models for this race. Drivers expected to compete are the defending WDRL champion and current point leader, Iowa's Chad Simpson; one of the best chauffeurs out of Kansas who is currently second in points, Al Purkey; eastern Iowa's Flying Eckrich Brothers, Denny and Dave; the Wisconsin Gentleman, John Kaanta; plus Chris Simpson, Eric Pember and Chad Mahder. A few of the many other drivers expected are John Anderson, Gordie Seegart, Rob Moss, Curt Martin, Jeremy Grady, Tim Isenberg, Andrew McKay and Matt Furman. Driver registration will begin at 2 p.m. on race day, Sunday, July 12, with practice at 5:45, group qualifying at 6 and racing action at 6:30. This promises to be a great show. The winner's share of the $25,000 purse will be $5,000, and the drivers will be battling to the checkered flag not only for the money but also the glory of winning a WDRL race.
