ALTA, Iowa (June 26) – The sixth race in the 2012 JR Motorsports Hawkeye Dirt Tour resulted in a sixth different winner.

Jay Noteboom led all 30 laps of the IMCA Modified main event Tuesday night at Buena Vista Raceway. He held off challenges from Mike Van Genderen and then by Darin Duffy in securing the $1,000 victory, his career first on the HDT circuit.

Duffy ended up second while Jeremy Mills’ third-place finish vaulted him into the tour point lead, nine markers better than Richie Gustin.

Gustin came into town with the top spot in the standings but got caught up in a lap 21 tangle with Duffy, Mark Schulte and Jeff Waterman. Duffy was able to restart before the yellow came out but Gustin, Schulte and Waterman were all done for the night.

Noteboom was scored first on every circuit but found himself side-by-side with Van Genderen on lap 20. Van Genderen got high and jumped the cushion on the restart the next lap and fell well off the pace.

Chris Abelson and defending series champion Mark Elliott rounded out the top five. Elliott had to race his way back toward the front after spinning on lap two and restarting at the back of the field.

Two other drivers running in the top five were yellow flag casualties: Dustin Smith was done for the night when his engine expired on lap 12 and pole starter Josh Most was taken out of contention by a lap 26 spin.

Duffy advanced 15 positions from his original starting spot. Mike Albertsen was a plus 12, Brian Schmitt and Rich Smith both plus 11.

Noteboom was already qualified for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot.

The seventh installment of the Hawkeye Dirt Tour is Tuesday, July 3 at Algona Raceway. Pit gates open at 4:30 p.m., the grandstand opens at 5:30 p.m. and hot laps are at 6:30 p.m. with racing to follow.
