Apr 17, 2014 – The ARCA Midwest Tour presented by Scag Power Equipment will make its return to Hawkeye Downs Speedway in Cedar Rapids, IA on Saturday, July 5th, 2014 for the Coors Light Summer Shootout and Music Festival presented by McGrath Powersports and Liz Girl Logistics.
This year’s event will be the biggest yet, with a variety of activities surrounding it to create a lot of local buzz. The action packed day will close out the ever popular Freedom Fest, end the Motorcycle Poker Run, and will include two live concerts, one during the on-track autograph session and the other will follow all of the night’s racing festivities.

If that isn’t enough, the night will also include the biggest 4-cylinder Hornets race in the state. Thirty cars will race 42 laps for a $2000 victory prize in the Merv Chandler Memorial 42. This feature will be a national and state points race for IMCA.

The last time the Tour visited the half-mile oval was in 2011. Jonathan Eilen took home the victory in the Miller 100. The event has changed names a few times over the years, but the race itself has always carried a rich history. Drivers from all over the country have won the event since its inception.
The Stars and Cars of the ARCA Midwest Tour have raced against the likes of top NASCAR© drivers, such as, Kyle Busch, Matt Kenseth, Kenny Wallace and more. As the nation’s top drivers from all over the Midwest make the trip to Hawkeye Downs for the 100 lap feature event, they will each be looking to etch their name in the record books.

“We’re looking forward to seeing the ARCA Midwest Tour coming back to Hawkeye Downs in July and hopefully every year after. Hawkeye Downs was made for this type of series, where you get to see many of the nation’s best short track veterans compete against talented young racers looking to move up. When you look at the past winners of the Midwest Tour races in Cedar Rapids, it’s a who’s who of short track racing and I’m sure the best will come out on top again,” said Dudley Fleck of Fleck Sales.

The Coors Light Summer Shootout and Music Festival could not happen if it weren’t for the collective efforts of Fleck Sales, McGrath Powersports, Townsquare Media (98.1 KHAK, 94.1 KRNA), and Liz Girl Logistics.

“I am proud to support this event. I think it will be an exciting day. The Midwest Tour has some of the best racing in the country and it is great to see them return to Hawkeye Downs this year,” said Liz Adrian of Liz Girl Logistics.

Griffin McGrath of McGrath Powersports has not only had a part in planning this year’s huge event, but he also knows what it means to be behind the wheel in a race like this.

“Hawkeye Downs is the first track I ever raced at. I’m always excited to have the Tour back in Cedar Rapids, but this event has created even more excitement to an already great series,” said McGrath.

The event organizers are also proud to announce a partnership with Casey’s General Stores and Coors Light/Miller Lite. For every 12-pack or larger of Coors Light or Miller Lite that is purchased at Casey’s, the customer will receive a $2 off coupon that can be used at the gate for a discount to the Coors Light Summer Shootout and Music Festival presented by McGrath Powersports and Liz Girl Logistics. Please visit your local Cedar Rapids and Iowa City area Casey’s stores to make your purchases and receive the discount coupon.
