Berry fills Fast Shafts All-Star spot for injured Wise
BOONE, Iowa (Aug. 21) – Hank Berry has been named to the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational field.
The Sidney, Mont., veteran takes the place of J.J. Wise of Manly, who was injured when hit in the visor of his helmet by a chunk of dirt during Sunday’s IMCA Modified event at I-35 Speedway in Mason City.
The All-Star race will be held Friday, Sept. 7 during the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals at Boone Speedway. Thirty cars will still comprise the starting grid.
“We hope that J.J. can attend that evening as an honorary All-Star,” IMCA Vice President of Operations Brett Root said. “He will be introduced during the pre-race ceremony and his name will remain on the All-Star T-shirt.”
Wise had been one of 13 drivers elected via voting conducted through the IMCA Facebook page to the All-Star field. Berry had the next highest vote total.
Both drivers made their career first All-Star Invitational appearances last year. Berry finished 13th, Wise 14th.
The last two spots in the All-Star field will be filled by top drivers in national points and in feature wins in attendance at Super Nationals.
Top two in national points pre-registered are Jeremy Frenier and Tyler Iverson. Feature win leaders, as of Aug. 17, were Cory Sample with 15 and Frenier with 14.
