FORT DODGE, Iowa (Oct. 3) – The Mineral City Speedway in Fort Dodge, Iowa, will host its final event of the 2012 campaign on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 12-13, with the 8th Annual Bruce Sommerfeld Memorial and Money Mania on tap at the popular half-mile clay oval.
Five USRA-sanctioned divisions will be in action with a complete show both days featuring Modifieds, A-Mods, Stock Cars, B-Mods and Hobby Stocks.
For the USRA Stock Cars and USRA B-Mods, it will also be the final event of the 2012 campaign for the Industrial Material Surplus Iron Man Challenge.
Drivers in all classes will compete in heat races, “B” mains and “A” mains on Friday, with the top 8 finishers in each main event locking themselves into Saturday’s main event. After completion of the program Friday, each of the 18 “A” main starters (90 drivers total) will have the opportunity to draw an envelope with an unknown amount of cash inside ranging from $50 to $700.
For the top 8 finishers in each of Friday’s main events, the driver can keep the envelope (with amount enclosed still unknown) but will forfeit his/her guaranteed spot in Saturday’s main event and must re-qualify Saturday with everybody else. If the driver foregoes the envelope and keeps his/her spot, the amount of money that is in the envelope will be spread out evenly among the top 8 finishers in that division’s main event on Saturday.
Five random non-qualified drivers’ names following Friday’s main events will be drawn for a $100 cash bonus. Plus, during the driver meeting on Saturday another five names will be drawn for another $100 each – a total of $1,000 bonus bucks during the two nights!
On Saturday, all non-qualifiers will compete in another round of heats and “B” mains prior to the “A” main for each class. The eight previously qualified drivers will compete in a dash to determine their starting spots in the “A” main, with the rest of Saturday’s qualifiers lining up behind them.
All classes will compete for the same purse with $1,200 going to the winner and a minimum of $125 to all feature race starters on Saturday night. However, payoffs for each division may be even more for the top 8 depending on what some drivers decide what to do with their envelope on Friday night.
To top that off, officials have also posted a $500 Clean Sweep Bonus to any driver who can win both main events in their division on Friday and Saturday.
Econo Stocks may run with the Hobby Stocks, and a $50 bonus will be awarded each night to the highest-finishing Econo Stock in the “A” main.

SATURDAY “A” MAIN PAYOUT: 1. $1200, 2. $750, 3. $600, 4. $500, 5. $400, 6. $350, 7. $300, 8. $275, 9. $250, 10. $225, 11. $200, 12. $170, 13. $150, 14. $140, 15. $130, 16-24. $125, Tow $75.

Hornets will also race for $150 to win and $30 to start each night, but do not partake in the mystery envelopes. There is no entry fee for the Hornets with the following payout each night: 1. $150, 2. $100, 3. $80, 4. $70, 5. $60, 6. $55, 7. $50, 8. $45, 9-10. $40, 11-13. $35, 14-24. $30.
Grandstand seating for adults is $12 for general admission on Friday and $15 on Saturday. Kids ages 6-12 are just $3 each night and children 5 and under are free. Pit passes are $30 each night.
USRA A-Mod rules for this event are flat tappet steel-headed engines only with no spoiler. Drivers cannot use the same car to race in two different Modified divisions. Race format will be draw/redraw each night. Tires allowed for the Modifieds, A-Mods, Stock Cars and B-Mods are American Racer KK704 or Hoosier G60. Restrictor plates will not be required for Hobby Stocks. All other USRA rules apply.
USRA track and national points will be awarded in all divisions USRA-sanctioned divisions. Points will also be awarded each night for USRA Stock Cars and USRA B-Mods in the Industrial Material Surplus Iron Man Challenge.
There’s no license required and no track fees, just a pit pass. Any driver competing in two or more classes must purchase a pit pass for each class.
