34 Raceway’s Night of the Twins doesn’t disappoint as Jamison and Ditsworth get the wins
By Dana Royer/34 Raceway

BURLINGTON, IA (AUG 18, 2012) – 34 Raceway hosted the Brockway Mechanical & Roofing Sprint Invaders Saturday evening August 18 with twin sprint car features for the fans. A good racing surface, good car count, and good size crowed made for a great night of racing in southeast Iowa. Race fans were treated to twice the 360 sprint features with Ryan Jamison. Mediapolis and Jayson Ditsworth, Gladstone, Il.,  taking the checkered flags for the wins. Joining the sprints Saturday night were the Mike’s Auto Parts IMCA Stock Cars, Holmes Concrete Mod Lites and the I-Wireless/Louisa Communications IMCA 4 Cylinders.  Also making it to the winner’s circle this week were John Oliver, Jr., Danville (stock cars), Greg Rossell, Knoxville, Il. (mod lites) and Billy Stanford, Wapello (4 cylinders).

With twenty-seven sprints checked in and three heat races and a B-Main were completed the first Sprint Invaders feature of the night saw Tony Shilling and Bobby Mincer on the front row of the twenty lap race.  Mincer took the early lead leading the field for the first eight laps before Ryan Jamison would go underneath in turn two for the lead and went on to take the checkered flag by several car lengths. Mincer, Hall, Shilling and Goldesberry rounding out the top five. Fourteen cars finished on the lead lap to qualify for the invert in Feature #2. Goldesberry passed 6 cars to win the KSE Hard Charger Award for Feature 1.

The second of two Sprint Invaders feature capped off the evening racing for the second $750 to win prize of the night. The field was  set with the finish of the fourteen cars on the lead lap in the first feature were inverted for the second feature. Justin Newberry and Josh Greenwood sat on the front row this time around but by the completion of the first lap, Matt Krieger was in the lead. Krieger took a demanding lead after the first few laps pulling away from the field and looked uncatchable. On lap ten an unfortunate situation occurred for Krieger when a car spun between turns one and two with Krieger nowhere to go. Krieger did a great job missing the stopped car, but killed the engine and stopped in the push off lane. According to Sprint Invader rules, since Krieger stopped, he had to restart in the rear. This put Jayson Ditsworth in the lead. Ditsworth and Russ Hall put on a show for the fans  trading positions several times. The final lap brought the fans to the edge of their seats as Ditsworth in the Olson Brothers car went for the final lead of the race and took the checkered flag as they crossed the finish line side by side. Hall finished second moving up from his twelvth position start and Jamison followed for third after moving up from  his fourteenth position starting spot. After the races, everyone enjoyed a birthday party in the pits for Jim Newberry who celebrated his 75th Birthday.

The announcement was made that the Season Championship for the Brockway Mechanical & Roofing Sprint Invaders has been moved to the 34 Raceway.  Due to an agreement between the Lee County Speedway, the 34 Raceway and the Sprint Invaders Board of Directors, the event will be held at 34 Raceway on Saturday, September 29.

The sprints weren’t the only cars providing exciting action this week. The Mike’s Auto Parts IMCA Stock Cars provided a show for the fans with John Oliver, Jr. Danville, getting the win.  Oliver took the lead from Jeremy Pundt on lap seven of the twenty lap feature and pulled away from the field before taking the checkered flag. The win extended Oliver’s point lead over Brett Timmerman with 537 points. Timmerman follows with 518 with one point race remaining.

The Holmes Concrete Mod Lites returned to the 3/8 mile with Greg Rossell, Knoxville, Il getting his first 34 Raceway win of 2012. Joe Huggins took the early lead before giving it up to three time winner Mike Morrill on lap four. With Morrill in the lead the battle for second was going on between Joe Huggins and Evan Epperson till the two cars tangled  bringing out the yellow flag. On the restart Morrill contined to hold his lead but not for long when Rossell would take over as third leader of the race and go on to pull away for the win. The Mod Lites will return Sept. 22.

In  I-Wireless/Louisa Communications IMCA 4 Cylinder action Billy Stanford, Wapello, would pick up his second win this year. Stanford took the lead from Dustin Ravelin on lap ten of the twelve lap, sixteen car feature and went on to take the checkered flag as Nick Wilkerson got by Ravelin on the final lap to finish second.
