Carpetland USA announces Hawkeye Downs Speedway sponsorship Floor covering retailer to sponsor Late Model Division for 2013 season
CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA (March 25, 2013) – Carpetland USA, the family owned and operated floor covering showroom with nine locations across eastern Iowa and western Illinois, has become a major presenting sponsor at the Hawkeye Downs Speedway for its upcoming season. The company will partner with the racing venue on the premier 2013 Late Model Division, featuring the highest class of vehicles from all over the region.
The Carpetland USA Late Models will race every Friday night throughout the summer as part of the Hawkeye Downs Hy-Vee/I-Wireless Weekly Racing Series. This agreement marks the first partnership of this kind between the two organizations.
“We are the premier destination for floor covering in the Midwest, and the Late Model Division is the premier racing division,” said Jeff Selfridge, who is the manager of the Carpetland USA store in Cedar Rapids. “I think it’s a perfect match.”
Hawkeye Downs has become one of the most popular family entertainment venues in the Midwest. Its weekly racing series, along with other special promotions and events, attract more than 100,000 visitors annually to the Cedar Rapids area. The location’s paved oval ½ mile and ¼ mile tracks have also hosted visiting regional and national series, including ASA, IMCA, NASCAR, UMARA, USAC and the American Indy Car Series.
The venue’s popularity as a destination and local institution makes it a natural partner for Carpetland USA, since the company heavily promotes community involvement. The participation of Cedar Rapids store manager, Jeff Selfridge, made the connection even stronger. In addition to his work for the company, Selfridge has had a life-long affiliation with Hawkeye Downs — first as a fan, then as a racer, and currently, as the official trackside announcer and commentator. Now, he’s happy to add sponsor to that list.
