Cruiser Cars Return to Stuart Speedway

| August 5, 2017

Stuart, IA (August 4) –  A cool night accompanied by some awesome racing made for a great night at Stuart Speedway! Curtis Miller, Gregg Anderson, Nick Roberts, Austin Luellen, Marcus Fagan and Chad Rigby/Carson Carpenter were the winners on NAPA Auto Parts Night at the Races.

Zak Sickles and Joseph Mastin brought out the IMCA Sport Compacts for the first feature of the night with Mastin leading lap one. Curtis Miller blasted into the lead on lap two and checked out on the field to take the feature win. John Gill finished second, Kolby Sabin third, Mastin fourth and Sickles fifth. Gill was the heat race winner.

IMCA Hobby Stocks were up next with JR Croy and Gregg Anderson on the front row. Anderson led at the start with Solomon Bennett and Jamie Schirm close behind. The only caution flag of the race flew on lap five for Jack Phillips losing a wheel on the front stretch. Anderson would have to deal with Schirm for the remainder of the race, and as the race wound down Aaron Rudolph closed in on the pair to make it a three way fight for the win. Schirm pulled alongside the leader time after time but just couldn’t close the deal as Anderson went on to the win. Schirm finished second with Rudolph third, Brandon Cox fourth and Croy fifth. Schirm and Korbin Nourse were the heat race winners.

Scott Bash and Cory Sauerman led the IMCA Modifieds to green next with Sauerman leading Todd VanEaton at the start. The top two stayed in formation until Nick Roberts passed VanEaton on lap nine. One lap later Roberts took over the lead and slowly checked out to take the win. Sauerman finished second with Jeff James third, Clint Luellen fourth and Josh Gilman fifth. Sauerman was the heat race winner.

IMCA Northern SportMods were up next with Brandon Patava and Hunter Longnecker on the front row. Longnecker jumped to the lead on lap one over Patava and Lynn Brockett. Brockett made it to second on lap two with Austin Luellen passing Patava and Brockett to move into the runner up spot on lap four. Longnecker and Luellen ran 1-2 until lap seven when Luellen powered into the lead. Luellen went on to the win with Longnecker second, Dusty Masolini third, Chase Rudolf fourth and John Watson fifth. Masolini and Colton Nelson were the heat race winners.

Brock Badger and Scott Bailey brought out the IMCA Stock Cars next with Badger leading lap one. Bailey slid by on lap two with Keith Simmons following him by Badger into second. The top three stayed the same through lap five, but Marcus Fagan began his march to the front on lap six as he moved into third. A lap later Fagan passed Simmons for second, but it looked like Bailey had an insurmountable lead. That all changed on lap twelve as Bailey encountered lap traffic. Bailey had to go low for a lap and that allowed Fagan to close the gap. Three laps later Fagan used the bottom side to take the lead and go on to the feature win. Bailey finished in second with Simmons third, Michael Murphy fourth and Josh Daniels fifth. Daniels and Bailey were the heat race winners.

Last up for the night was the return of the Cruiser Cars with Scott Willemsen/Brian Willemsen and Travis Fenton/Charles Belew on the front row. Willemsen/Willemsen led lap one with Chad Rigby/Carson Carpenter close behind in second. Rigby/Carpenter took over the lead on lap two just before Dallas Larson/Ben Larson went up and over the turn one wall to bring out the caution. Once that was cleaned up it was all Rigby/Carpenter as they went on to the feature win. Fenton/Belew finished second with Blake Henry/Rachelle Henry third, Collin Gross/Kyle Gibbons fourth and Willemsen/Willemsen fifth. Willemsen/Willemsen was the heat race winner.

We’d like to thank all who came out to support the race track at our eleventh event of the year. Next week will be The Bones Memorial presented by Adair Lumber Company. The SportMods will be racing for $1000 to win, the Micro Sprints will be in attendance and we will have kid’s rides as well! See you then!
