Denning, Ellithorpe, Eberle Score Repeat Wins At Maquoketa Speedway
Maquoketa, Iowa: The Maquoketa Speedway dodged the predicted wet weather on Saturday night and held a fast, action packed night of racing on the very smooth fast ¼ mile dirt track located on the Jackson County Fairgrounds.
The headliner of the night was the US Cellular IMCA Modified feature that went twenty laps caution free. Travis Denning was able to get past early leader Spencer Diercks and move into the lead just before lap ten and go on to record his third win at the Maquoketa Speedway in 2022. Diercks held off the 2021 Modified track champion, Jeff (bone) Larson at the checkers.
Jacob Ellithorpe had his Hawkins Trucking & Construction IMCA Stock Car back in fine form on Saturday night. Ellithorpe had spent countless hours in the garage making repairs following an incident that caused severe damage to the drive train in his #72 Stock car. Ellithorpe scored a comfortable win in the 15 lap main event. Rick Schriner came under he checkers in second ahead of Richard Nelson.
Jarrett Franzen scored his first hometown win in the very tough Amhof Trucking IMCA Sportmod division on Saturday night. Franzen took the lead from early leader Randy Butterbrodt and went on to hold off three time Maquoketa Speedway winner Shane Paris for the win. Tyler Soppe recovered from an early race miscue to charge back to a third place finish.
A 16 car field of INEX Legends took the green flag for their 20 lap main event with Jeff Schmidt leading the first couple of circuits before being overtaken by Kacey Korsmo. Dave Eberle worked the bottom of the smooth track and made his way into the lead at the halfway point. Eberle scored his second win of the season in the very tough legends class. Eberle held off multiple challenges by Mike Weber and late in the race Eric Blumer. At the finish it was Blumer taking second ahead of Weber.
The Ueland Auto Hobby Stocks main event saw a very spirited battle between Brandon White and Randy LaMar. La Mar tried every line on the smooth track to get by White but the youngster held his line lap after lap taking the win by less than ½ a car length. Lukas Short took third on Saturday night.
Mitch Bielenberg drove his #12 QCJeeps.Com Sport Compact to the feature win on Saturday night. Bielenberg held off Cyle Hawkins, who has been in victory lane multiple times in 2022. Hawkins made a late race charge that came up just short to Bielenberg at the finish line.
Quentyn Hubbe drove his topless school bus to the ten lap feature win on Saturday night topping a field of six school buses.
Saturday, June 18 will feature the Delmar Gade Memorial for the American Iron Racing Series. The AIRS cars will be in action in addition to all weekly classes with the exception of the Legends cars. Hot laps will take to the track at 5:30 pm.
