DOUBLE SUNLINE HORNET FEATURES THIS FRIDAY AT HAWKEYE DOWNS

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA  (June 20, 2012) – This Friday night, June 22,  is round eight of the 2012 racing season at Hawkeye Downs Speedway- Eastern Iowa’s premier racing facility.  Racing action continues in all six divisions of the Papa Johns’ Cup/I-Wireless Championship Series.

 After rain shortened the program last  week , a full night of heat and feature action is on tap with Performance Concepts Late Models, Mountain Dew Sportsmen, Budweiser Modifieds, Barron Motor Supply Hobby Stocks, Sunline Hornets, and Dublin City Pub Legend Cars taking to the track.

In addition, the Sunline Hornets will run double features. The first feature will be a make-up event from last weeks program.

Kids and  the i-Wireless Lil’ Racers Car Club also get into the act Friday night on ‘Kids with Cancer Night-Their Night at the Track.” Special activities are planned for kids who are cancer survivors prior to and during the race program.

Bike races will also be held on the quarter-mile during intermission with kids urged to bring their bikes to the track to join in on the fun.

Fans will want to check out the new concession menu items as new offerings join some old Hy-Vee and Papa Johns favorites  along with the addition of ice cold Pepsi Products.

Looking at the point races, Matt Petrzelka sits atop the Barron Motor Supply Hobby Stock division holding a somewhat comfortable lead over Brad Chandler. Roland Bohnsack holds the third spot.

Kevin Korsmo continues to lead the way in Dublin City Pub Legends but Dennis Diercks is keeping the pressure on in second. Al Diercks currently sits in third.

Shane Hanson and Kurt Bohnsack are tied atop the Sunline Hornets division, each with one feature win. John Ness is close behind in third.

Dave McCalla is in command of the Mountain Dew Sportsmen with Bob Ahrendsen holding down second and Greg Hentrich in third.

In Budweiser Modifieds, Brian Gibson holds the top spot but Ryan Luedtke is just seven points behind the leader. Craig Bender continues to hold third place.

In Performance Concepts Late Models, Brad Osborn has parlayed consistent high finishes into the division lead without winning a feature thus far this season. Thor Anderson is second on the chart while Brian Allen is in third.

The Front Gate opens at 6pm with Hot Laps slated for 6:35 pm. Pre-Race Ceremonies will begin at 7:15pm with the first race at 7:30pm.

Adult admission is STILL just $10, Senior Citizens (62+) are $7, Students over 12 are just $5, College Students are just $5 with a valid ID and Children 12 and Under are absolutely FREE!
