Encores in Ardmore and Amarillo, debut in Beaver this weekend for USMTS Casey’s Cup Series
ARDMORE, Okla. (June 5) – In case you missed ‘em three weeks ago, the stars and cars of the United States Modified Touring Series are back in Oklahoma and Texas this weekend for a trio of events worth $6,000 to win combined, important series points and some serious cash for a handful of drivers in the USMTS Casey’s Cup Series powered by Swan Energy.
On Friday, June 8, the series returns to the Southern Oklahoma Speedway in Ardmore, Okla., and then on Saturday, June 9, it’s a return to the Route 66 Motor Speedway in Amarillo, Texas. To close out the tripleheader, the USMTS Modifieds will make their first-ever visit to the Beaver County Raceway in Beaver, Okla., on Sunday, June 10.
Returning to the stomping grounds where he cut his teeth in racing, Rodney Sanders of Happy, Texas, comes into the weekend as the series points leader after recording one win. But perhaps even more impressive is the 10 top-five and 12 top-10 finishes in 12 starts for ‘The Rocket.’
Last year’s USMTS National Champion Ryan Gustin of Marshalltown, Iowa, sits second in the rankings followed by Stormy Scott, Jason Hughes, Bryan Rowland, Johnny Scott, Terry Phillips, Kelly Shryock, Dereck Ramirez and Jon Tesch.
This year’s USMTS Casey’s Cup Series champion will earn a cool $15,000. Added to that, eight drivers remain eligible for the “near-perfect” attendance bonus that began May 23: Sanders, Gustin, Stormy Scott, Tesch, Gustin, Ryan Ruter, Mike Steensma, Daniel Hilsabeck and Jacob Dahle.
Each of those eight drivers is currently guaranteed $444 on July 21 at the final qualifying event before the start of the Hunt for the USMTS Casey’s Cup. Those with near-perfect attendance (can miss one race) during that time span will get an equal share of up to $15,000 in bonus money.
