WAKEENEY, KS (June 10)—It was definitely a family affair in two of the four divisions at Wakeeney (KS)Speedway on Sunday evening, June 10.

The first came in the IMCA Stock Car feature.  B.J. Wagoner led the first 2 laps in the 20-lap main event, but two laps later was passed by Jeff Tubbs.  But on lap nine, Nick Tubbs of Colby took over the top spot, only to give it back to his older brother on lap 10 at the halfway mark.  But ‘The Spiderman’ regained the lead the following lap and held off a late charge by his brother the last couple of laps to make his way to the Jason Oil Winner’s Circle for the third time this season at Wakeeney.  ‘The Hammer’ Josh Hudson finished third, followed by heat two winner Terry Cunningham and ‘Sweet’ Wheat Lippelmann.  Jeff Tubbs won the first heat.

Tim Watts led the opening lap of the 20-lap IMCA Modified feature before turning over the lead to Kyle Rohleder.  Rohleder then turned over control to ‘The Terminator’ Travis Sherfick of Wakeeney on lap 9.  Younger brother ‘Dynamite’ Dylan Sherfick moved to second late in the race and stayed close to his brother but could not make a pass and had to settle for the runner-up spot.  Matt Fabrizius, John Fose and Marty Clark rounded out the top five.  Sherfick was the seventh different feature winner in seven races in the modified division this season at Wakeeney.  Heat race winners included Travis Sherfick, Rohleder and Fabrizius.

Tyrel Smith of Goodland echoed Sherfick’s fete as he became the seventh different IMCA Hobby Stock feature winner in seven outings this season at the 3/8-mile oval.  Smith, who won the night before at RPMSpeedwayin Hays, took the lead from heat one winner Leon Pfannenstiel on lap 3 and led the remaining distance in the 15-lap event for the win.  Daniel Irwin, Brian Stich, Tommy Fose and Cody Ghumm completed the top five.  Smith was victorious in the other heat race.

Hoxie’s Chris Heim took the lead on lap 2 of the IMCA Northern Sport Mod feature from outside polesitter Andy Barton and would hold of several challenges from the 18-car field to make his way to victory lane.  Cory Struckhoff was second, followed by heat race winners Brian Conness and ‘Wild’ Willie Wynn.  Dan Lauer finished fifth.  Blaine Walt also won a heat race.

The evening’s race sponsor was Pit Road Liquor and A & A Coors.

Racing returns to Wakeeney Speedway on Sunday, June 24, at 6:00 p.m. with the regular four divisions in competition.
