Four New Winners at QC Speedway

EAST MOLINE, IL (July 1, 2012) – With the heat index reaching the century mark, action on the track Sunday was as hot and heated as the scorching temperature at the Quad City Speedway. The heat didn’t stop four drivers from blazing their way into the winner’s circle for the first time in 2012 at QCS.

In the always heavily contested Extreme Auto Glass Street Stock, Colona’s Korey Peterson used his inside second row starting position to grab the lead and hold off all comers en route to first feature winner in 2012 including second place finisher Jeremy Gustaf and third place finisher Emily Gade who ran side by side coming to the checkered flag. Rob Nylin would take fourth with Rob Henry finishing fifth after starting 15th.

The 2011 Quad City Speedway IMCA Modified Track Champion, Thad Wilson, took full advantage of a caution with nine laps down to take over the lead and win his first Orion Tire Repair IMCA Modified feature at QCS in the 2012 season. Doug Crampton, who started ninth, was able to keep pace with Wilson to finish second with Brian Bushong, in a borrowed car, taking third followed by Jason Masengarb and Aaron Burroughs.

Once again the Mod Lite division put on a stellar feature with David Norton battling Galesburg’s Brad Lucy lap after lap for lead. With two laps to go Norton would take control of the lead and hold off Lucy and Shon Sanders who came from the seventh starting spot to challenge for the lead on the last lap. Sander would grab second with Lucy, Rob Guss, and Bryan Brinker rounding out the top five.

After a lap one caution, the Verplaetse Excavating A-Modifieds went flag to flag with Mechanicsville, Iowa’s Scott Fridley leading every lap and picking up his first A-Modified win at QCS in 2012. Jerry Bailey Jr. had his best run of 2012 holding off seasoned veterans John Bull and Ryan Dolan to take second. Dolan would finish third with Bull and Shaune Lewis completing the top five. It was also announced Sunday night that beginning Sunday, July 15th, the Verplaetse Excavating A-Modifieds will be UMP sanctioned for the remainder of the 2012 season at QCS.

The Sexton Ford IMCA Late Models put on another thrilling 30 lap main event Sunday night. Former National Champion, “Rocket” Rob Toland, looked to be sailing to a feature win but after a caution with seven laps to go bunched up the field last week’s feature winner Ray Guss Jr. made an impressive move coming out of turn four to take over the lead with five laps to go. “The River City Hustler” would take the win with Toland second followed by Mike Murphy Jr., Shawn Mulvany, and Mike Cothron.

Aaron Hitt found himself back in the winner’s circle after going virtually untouched in the Aaron’s Affordable Towing 4-Cylinder feature. Brandon Dahl piloted his D17 to second place finish after starting the race seventh. Jason Blocker would cross the line third with Dustin Forbes and Cameron Poci taking fourth and fifth respectively.

Next week at the Quad City Speedway will be St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Night. Pits and grandstand will open at 3:30pm with racing at 5:30pm. More information can be found at www.qcspeedwayracing.com
