Griffiths, Dale, Kirkland and Kirkpatrick pick up wins at Bloomfield

BLOOMFIELD, IA (April 12, 2014) – The season opener at the Mountain-Dew Bloomfield saw picture perfect weather for Saturday night racing action with temps in the lower 80’s and the rain holding off made for some great racing. Mother-nature forced a cancellation last week forcing a week delay.
The first feature of the night was Mike’s Tire & Alignment sport mod feature with seventeen cars checked in for competition. The eighteen lap event would see a couple cautions that would close the field up and make for some good side-by-side action. The early race leader Bobby Six of Keokuk would take the lead and try to hold off Jason McDaniel of Eldon who would take the lead on the four circuit. Both Six and McDaniel would swap the lead several time with each driver working the high and low side of the racing surface. McDaniel looked to have his 85 machine headed to victory lane but his machine would drift high off turn two giving Gorin, Missouri driver Brandon Dale the chance to secure the lead. A late race restart would see Carter Vandenberg of Oskaloosa try to put pressure on Dale but would come up in the runner-up spot. This was Brandon’s second career win his previous win can in the 2012 season. McDaniel raced his way from fifth to third after the falling back after leading earlier in the race. Ryan Fullenkamp of Bloomfield was fourth and Six was fifth.
In the Taylor Automotive Stock Car feature big money was on the line after being carried over from last season a $1200 top prize for the Budweiser six pack shootout and a lucky fan for a chance to win $50,000 after the race. The early race leader was Nathan Wood of Sigourney who earned the pole starting spot after winning the quick six dash. Wood would take the lead before motor problems would end his night at a chance at the top prize and would turn the lead over to Derrick Agee of Huntsville, Missouri but his night would end with a flat tire. This would setup a pair of 2’s battling for the lead with Derek Kirkland in the 2K from Centerville and Don Nunnikhoven in his 2N machine from Sully battling for the top spot. Kirkland would hold on to score the victory and get an almost 6 foot tall trophy and $1200 dollars. Nunnikhoven took second with Mt Union driver Corey Strothman in third and Cody Agee of Moberly, Missouri taking fourth. Mt. Pleasants Jason Cook raced his was from sixteenth starting spot to take fifth.
The Kirkland Auto Hobby Stock feature Nick Ulin of Agency and Mike Kincade of Cincinnati would battle for the lead and Ulin looked to have a nice size lead but Doug Gorden Jr. of Drakesville who was running in the second position before a flat right rear tire ended his night causing a caution. This would setup a three car battle with Dustin Griffiths of Ottumwa joining in for a nice three car battle with Unlin, Kincade and Griffiths battling with Griffiths taking the lead on the low line of the racing surface. Griffiths would take the win over Kincade who took the runner-up spot. The third spot went to Ben Grove who spun his machine on the first lap but raced his way from the back to take third and Ulin in fourth. Dan Blozivich of Exline taking the fifth spot.
Our final feature of the night was the Kollision Korner 4 cylinders with Tim Bevins of Eldon looking to have his 95 machine headed to victory lane but Kassidy Kirkpatrick of Ottumwa would run down Bevins to take the win. Bevins taking the runner-up spot and Aaron Bridgeman of Bloomfield would pass Trent Orwig of Blakesburg for the third spot and Orwig taking fourth.
