EAST MOLINE, IL (May 27, 2012) – On a sweltering Memorial Day weekend Milan’s Ray Guss Jr. returned the No. 58 Roberts Motorsport IMCA Late Model to the winner’s circle at the Quad City Speedway.Guss used the first 22 laps of the 30 lap Sexton Ford IMCA Late Model feature to dart through traffic, using every part of the track from the top to the bottom, to come from his 12th starting spot to take over the lead. Rob Toland did everything he could to hold off Guss but Guss proved to be too strong. Mike Guldenpfennig had an excellent run finishing second. Nate Beuseling would take third after going to the rear of the field after a lap 7 incident. Third went to Todd Malmstrom, who came the 10th starting, with Mike Garland rounding out the top 5.

In the Verplaetse Excavating A-Modifieds Big 8 Racing Series, presented by Fikes Truck Line, Ryan Dolan took full advantage of his outside front row starting spot to lead all but 3 laps of the feature race en route to a another win. Milo Veloz Jr. did make several attempts at Dolan’s top spot including a strong last lap effort but Veloz would have to settle for second followed by John Bull, Scott Fridley, and Doug Curless.

The Durbin boys went 1-2 in the Orion Tire Repair IMCA Modified feature. Greg Durbin came from the seventh starting spot take over the lead just pass the halfway point while Brandon Durbin, after early race flat tire, came from last to second. Jason Bahrs would come from ninth to finish third with Brian Bushong and Justin Veloz completing the top 5.

Port Byron’s Rob Henry had one the most impressive runs of the night coming from 17th in the Extreme Auto Glass Street Stock feature to take home the victory. Using the top side of the track, Henry only needed nine laps to make his way to the front. The rest of the top five were Ron Marks Jr. (who started 10th), R.J. Gonzales (who started 13th), Chris Lawrence and Rick Schriner

In the Aaron’s Affordable Towing 4-Cylinders feature the Dahl family made three of the top five finishers. The top finishing Dahl was Zachary, who picked up his first feature win in 2012 at QCS. Cameron Poci would take second followed by Wade Dahl, Brandon Dahl, and John Scott III.

Racing returns to the Quad City Speedway next Sunday with Weekly Racing plus Mod Lites. Gates open at 3:30pm with racing at 5:30pm. For more information visit www.qcspeedwayracing.com.
