I-30 Speedway Eagerly Anticipating World of Outlaw Invasion on May 10th
Little Rock, Arkansas (May 5, 2013) – After having Mother Nature cruelly force the postponement of the World of Outlaws (WoO) Super Late Model Series first-ever appearance in the state of Arkansas back in late March, the tour is now once again setting its sights on its debut in the Razorback state with a showdown at I-30 Speedway (Little Rock, Arkansas) on Friday, March 10th.
“We were all bummed to have to postpone the event, but in hindsight it probably will work out for the best,” notes I-30 Speedway promoter, Tracey Clay. “Over the off season we added over 200 loads of gumbo to the track surface to make it even more racy. Unfortunately as everyone knows we’ve had an unbelievable amount of rain in the first four months of this year. It wasn’t until recently that we were able to really get the new dirt worked in to the track to keep it from being rough. I really think the WoO drivers and fans are going to enjoy the show that the new surface will produce.”
The WoO competitors will bring a strong contingent of drivers into battle at the high-banked, 1/4 mile oval including defending champion Darrell Lanigan from Union, Kentucky. He will be joined by a host of stout tour contenders including Josh Richards (West Virginia), Rick Eckert (Pennsylvania), Shane Clanton (Georgia), Tim McCreadie (New York), Chub Frank (Pennsylvania), Scott James (Indiana), Tim Fuller (New York), Bub McCool (Mississippi), and Clint Smith (Georgia).
The WoO tour also brings a strong rookie crop to the table led by Eric Wells (Kentucky), Morgan Bagley (Texas), and Dillon Wood (Florida).
While the touring drivers will bring a strong force into battle an equally tough field of independent national and regional drivers are setting their sights on an upset victory in the $10,000-to-win/$700-to-start event. Three-time WoO champion, Billy Moyer from Batesville, Arkansas will lead the charge, which includes Wendell Wallace, Jack Sullivan, Ray Moore, Kyle Beard, Jon Mitchell, Jeff Floyd, Robert Baker, Chandler Petty, Ross Camponovo, Timothy Culp, Brandon Smith, Tommy Surrett, and many more.
In addition to the $10,000 top prize these privateers will be chasing a $500 bonus, which is made available to any non-WoO driver, who has never won a WoO feature, and finishes highest in the feature event. Entries from more than ten states are expected.
A capacity crowd is expected at the historic oval as calls have been flooding into the office for the past several weeks.
Clay concludes by noting, “For many years I-30 Speedway has been known as a Sprint Car track, but we’ve had some incredible Late Model events here over the years. However, I’m not afraid to say that with the anticipation of this race, the field of cars that we will have, and the new track surface that this very well will be one of our biggest shows ever in the history of the facility.”
Gates are scheduled to open at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 10th, at I-30 Speedway. Hot laps are set for 6:30 p.m., with WoO LMS Ohlins Shocks Time Trials to follow and racing earmarked to start at 7:30 p.m.
General admission to the program, which also includes racing for IMCA Modifieds and Street Stocks, is $25 with children ages 6-12 admitted for $5 when accompanied by an adult.
