Jake Griffin Enjoys Successful Weekend on Dirt and Pavement
Quincy, Illinois (May 14, 2013) – 14-year-old Jake Griffin had a busy weekend on dirt and pavement, and by the time the action was complete he had won a pair of heat races and recorded back-to-back top five finishes in feature action.
On Saturday evening Jake Griffin made the trip to Lebanon I-44 Speedway (Lebanon, Missouri) to not only take some practice laps on the asphalt oval in his Pro Late Model for the upcoming Masters of the Pro’s 144 event, which will be sanctioned by the JEGS/CRA All Star tour, but also to compete in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Pro Late Model weekly program. A talented field of twenty-one entries were on hand for the program, and Griffin started the night by winning his heat race. In the redraw for the feature he received the tenth starting spot. He would go on to advance five spots to record a fifth place finish behind race winner, Matt Wallace, JC Newell, Cole Williams, and Grant Sharp. Jake returned to familiar territory on Sunday night as he took part in a Weekly Racing Series Event at his home track, Quincy Raceway (Quincy, Illinois). With seventeen entries registered for battle it would prove to be Griffin’s best outing of the year so far in the UMP Open Wheel Modified class. Jake started his night by blasting from the sixth starting spot to win his heat race, which locked him into the seventh starting spot for the main event. Just like in his heat race Griffin quickly worked his way through the field in the feature as he raced to a second place finish behind race winner, Steven DeLonjay. “After what has been a frustrating start to the year for us this weekend was just what we needed,” noted Griffin. “I’m excited to get back to Lebanon this weekend for the big event because we really learned a lot last weekend and turned some fast laps!”
Jake Griffin Racing will start the upcoming weekend on Saturday, May 18th at Lebanon I-44 Speedway with the Master of the Pro’s 144, which will pay $8,000-to-win for the JEGS/CRA All Star competitors. It’s the richest Pro Late Model event of the year in the country. Sunday evening will find the team back at Quincy Raceway (Quincy, Illinois) for a Weekly Racing Series Event in his #08 UMP Open Wheel Modified.
