Janssen Scores Big Win At “Spring Fling” As Cedar County Raceway Opens 2025 Season
Tipton, Iowa (April 12, 2025) – The 2025 racing season got underway on Saturday night as Darkside Promotions presented the annual “Spring Fling”. 103 drivers took part in the race program that saw the first green flag of the night wave at 5:30 pm for warm ups. 20 races later the final checkered flag of the night waved at 8:41 pm. The perfectly prepared racing surface by the Dirt Doctor, AL Dlouhy, provided a night full of wheel to wheel 3 and four wide racing.
The 25 lap IMCA Modified feature saw a field full of Supernationals, National and multi time track champions take the green with Austin Stamm and Dylan Thornton leading the field in the early going. Third starting Drew Janssen took over the top spot as five laps were completed and the 127 of Janssen went on to score the “Spring Fling” championship. A late race caution bunched up the field and on the restart positions 2 through five were swapped as local standout Ben Chapman charged to the low side and raced to the checkers in second. 10th starting Jeff Larson crossed the stripe in third.
Tyler Wilson made a 5 hour tow Saturday night from Little Suamico, Wisconsin to race in the very tough IMCA Stock Car division. The long tow paid off for the Wisconsin driver as he collected the 20 lap feature win. Wilson took the win ahead of fellow Wisconsin driver Kenny Richards with Gage Neal rounding out the top three.
“Speedy Bray” Brayton Carter loves the quick ¼ mile Cedar County Raceway and has enjoyed great success over the years in the IMCA Sportmod class. Carter added another win on Saturday night to his resume by topping the 20 lap feature. Carter started eighth and quickly worked to the front in route to the checkers ahead of fellow Oskaloosa driver Dylan VanWyk.
Another driver who has had great success at Tipton over the years, Dan Mohr, took an impressive win in the IMCA Hobby Stock feature. The Double Cheeseburger Motorsports car driven by Mohr was on point all night as he topped the 23 car starting field. Brayden Fahrni took second ahead of Kyler Hefty.
The American Iron Racing Series brought 13 cars representing all makes and models of classic race cars to Tipton for the “Spring Fling”. Robin “Wildman” Atkins drove his 1967 Ford Fairlane to the win ahead of Brian Gade in his 1958 Ford.
Travis Hawkins drove his sharp looking number 8 Outlaw 4 Cylinder to the win in the main event ahead of the 815 of Dustin Forbes.
The wild and woolly 2 Man Outlaw Cruisers win went to the team of Paul and Trevor Fleming. The team of Mitch Bielenberg and Andy Wagner showed the fans a four cylinder could run with the big motors in taking second.
The Cedar County Raceway is now set to host the MARS Super Late Models on Thursday, April 17th as K Promotions and Darkside Promotions are teaming up to bring the “Hawkeyeland 40 “ to Tipton. The 40 lap feature will pay a whopping $5,000 to the winner on Thursday night. In addition to the Super Late Models the Modifieds, Stock Cars and Sportmods will all be in action. Hot laps will take to the track at 6:30 pm.
