John Hall Racing kicks off 25th anniversary season

MARION, IOWA (April 16, 2012)—John Hall and the Left Turn Enterprises Racing Team had a great start to a milestone season on Saturday, April 14, when the Sprint Invaders Association attempted to open its 2012 campaign at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa.
With a field of 29 sprint cars ready to compete in the 360 division, Hall drew a starting spot outside the second row for his heat race. He was able to maintain a second-place finish on the very fast track, despite getting up on two wheels at one point. He was catching the eventual winner at the time of the bauble, but still managed to keep the third-place finisher a straightaway behind.
That finish qualified Hall for the night’s dash, a special race for the top two finishers in each heat race which then determines starting spots for the front rows of the main event. However, with wet weather fast approaching, race officials opted to cancel the dash in an attempt to move the show along. Unfortunately, rain halted the night after a few laps of the B-Main had been run and there was no way to continue. Race officials have determined that the main event will be rescheduled for the Sprint Invaders Association’s next trip to 34 Raceway on July 3.
Despite not being able to finish the evening, the team was very happy with the good start to the season. It was the first night for new helper Mark Aaron to spend with longtime crew member Darrell Bonesteel and together, the team found a problem in the venting of the fuel system that they believe has held them back for the last couple of years.
The real test will come this Saturday, April 21, when Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, hosts its season opener. This will mark Hall’s 25th anniversary season of racing sprint cars at the Sprint Car Capitol of the World. He started racing sprint cars at Knoxville in 1988, when he won the Rookie of the Year title in the 360 division. The 25 years since then have been filled with ups and downs, a few major accidents and total rebuilds of the car, but one thing is certain: Hall and his team remain committed to being part of Knoxville’s tremendous history.
