Maquoketa Speedway Set To Host 1st Annual Gil Short Memorial

Friday & Saturday, September 23 & 24

 

Maquoketa, Iowa: the Maquoketa Speedway will bring the 2022 racing season to a close this weekend with the first annual running of the Gil Short Memorial. Two full nights of racing will be held at the Jackson County Fairgrounds ¼ mile dirt track. Gil Short was the Chief and Founder of the Speedway Fire Rescue group that services many Eastern Iowa Race Tracks by providing safety equipment and personnel.

Friday, September the 23rd will see a full program of racing with the IMCA Modifieds headlining the action. A $1,200 first place prize will be on the line for the Modifieds. The Sportmods will battle it out for a $750 top prize, also racing will be the Hobby Stocks, INEX Legends and the Mini Late Models. Friday night will also be the Maquoketa Speedway 2022 Hall Of Fame Induction night. Honorees will include Phil Roberts, Larry Goldbeck, Dan Garland and Duke Jackson. Friday night the action will get underway with hot laps at 6:30 with racing to follow.

Saturday, September 24th will be another full night of racing with the INEX Legends racing for a $1,000 top prize, the always entertaining IMCA Stock Cars will race for a $750 top prize. Also racing will be the Hobby Stocks, AIRS cars, Midwest Jalopies and the night will be capped off with a 50 lap Enduro race. Saturday night will also be Back To School Night with lots of prizes for the youngsters in attendance. Hot Laps will get underway at 5:30 pm with racing to follow.
