McCarl masters Sprint Invaders at Independence Motor Speedway

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (May 30) – For the second year in a row, Terry McCarl topped a field of twenty-four 360 Sprints to win the Brockway Mechanical & Roofing Sprint Invaders feature Friday night during the Open Wheel Shootout at Independence Motor Speedway.

Following his win in the Shake-Up Dash, McCarl redrew the #5 pill to invert the top five dash finishers at the front of the feature, placing him inside row three for the 25-lapper.

After a trio of cautions slowed action over the first three laps, McCarl raced into the lead by the completion of lap four with Tony Shilling and Jarrod Schneiderman in tow.

McCarl entered lapped traffic and extended his advantage before a pair of mid-race cautions slowed the event – one for a Schneidermann spin in turn four with 10 laps remaining.

McCarl was uncontested on the restart as he pulled away to victory ahead of Shilling and Chris Martin.

Unsanctioned Modifieds and SportMods joined the 360 Sprints for the open wheel special.

In the Modified feature, Vern Jackson chased pole sitter Tony Snyder at the front of the pack before Snyder pushed high in turn four on the fourth circuit, allowing Jackson to sneak by to his inside.

Following the only caution on lap nine, Darin Duffy split between Snyder and J.D. Auringer on the restart to steal second. He went to work on chasing down Jackson over the last half of the 20-lapper.

Duffy reeled in Jackson and was able to pull alongside the leader in the late stages, however Jackson fought off the pressure to score the victory. Auringer ran third.

Outside front row starter Lucas Lundry took the lead at the drop of the green in the 15-lap SportMod feature. He survived one mid-race restart to drive to victory ahead of Kip Siems and Matt McCahen.
