McCarthy Auto Group Opening Night at I-35 Speedway
WINSTON, MO (March 29, 2015) – The ever growing and always exciting E-Mod class was the first to take to the track getting the action off to a fast pace start to an awesome night of racing. Allie Mulich #90 would use an outside front row starting position and hold off all challengers on her way to victory lane. Mulich would be challenged early by young Nicholas Carpenter #33 who would fade in the later stages of the race, with Scotty Grenier #25 mounting a challenge for the lead late. Grenier would have to settle for second as Mulich would run a perfect line on the smooth fast racing surface sealing the win. Keith Simmons and Justin Asher would battle side by side for most of the feature with Simmons #222 third and the #74 of Asher fourth. Former Modified driver Nick Little would charge his “Racing for the Cure” #7 to a solid top 5 finish. Heat race winners were Allie Mulich #90, Nicholas Carpenter #33 and John Brown #36.
Grand Nationals would take to the track next with Hall of Famer Buz Kaster #54 showing the way early and seemed to be the car to beat leading every lap except the one that counted. Austin Johnson #98 would take advantage of a late race bobble by Kaster in turn 2 and use the inside line on the last lap to capture the victory. Kaster would have to settle for second and Houston Johnson #97 would come home third. Donnie Brown #26 would challenge for the lead early but develop mechanical problems forcing him to fourth. Marty Powell driving a borrowed car would also have issues and finish fifth. Heat race winner was Austin Johnson #98.
Keeping the great night of racing action rolling the Hobby Stocks would not disappoint the crowd in attendance. Greg Gilbert would start second row outside but not stay there long as he charged to the front passing all challengers and seeing the checkers first. In victory lane Gilbert wanted the fans to know that he drives past another race track and comes to I-35 Speedway to race because of the great fans and atmosphere. Gilbert’s #23G would be challenged by last year’s track champion Mich Ross #34 who would finish the night second. Newcomer to the track #47 Geary Phillips would make an impressive showing racing his way to a solid third place with Tyler Clark #0X fourth. Tobin “The Hitman” Bartlett #28 would recover from an early race mishap and finish fifth. Heat race winners were Mich Ross #34 and #23G of Greg Gilbert.
USRA B-Mods would put on a display of driving skills as they delivered a great A Feature for the fans to enjoy. The number 73 of Truman Asher would jump to an early lead and never look back claiming the B-Mod Feature. Asher would hold off the very fast charge of Andy Bryant #28 who would finish second and Shadren Turner #17T would place a close third. Racing was fast and furious throughout the pack as Tim Eaton #211 would battle wheel to wheel with the fast #18K of Danan Knott. Eaton would finish fourth holding Knott to fifth as they were side by side at the line. B-Feature winner was #11d of Caleb Dennis. Heat race winners were David Bouzek #75, Andy Bryant #28, Shadren Turner #17T and Truman Asher #73.
The USRA Stock cars may have been a little low in quantity but where high in quality as they always put on some of the closest and best racing you could ever witness. Jeff Dixon #88 would hold off all challengers and not be denied on this night finding his way to McCarthy Auto Group Victory Lane. Dixon would get by Thomas Roberts using the high line and hold the always fast 65x to second. Driving a borrowed car, after developing transmission trouble in his heat race, Dean Wray #77 would race his way to a solid third with the 20X of Jon Boller Jr. fourth. Newcomer to the Stock Car division Nathan Carder #8 would round out the nights top five. Heat race winner was Jeff Dixon #88.
Then came the high flying, fire breathing and alcohol drinking USRA Modifieds to the three eighths mile of dirt. On a near perfect racing surface Terry Schultz and Dennis Elliott would lead them to the green with great side by side racing action to follow. Schultz would use the low line to take the early advantage holding off the charge of Elliott who would hound him for the first five circuits. As the action heated up throughout the pack Matt Dotson #88d would mount a charge and take the lead from Schultz #90 and go on to take the win. Schultz would hold on to second as Dennis Elliott #29 would finish third. Cory Wray #69N was one of the big movers of the race coming through the pack to place fourth with last year’s track champion Zach Sanders #69 rounding out the top five. Heat race winners were Matt Johnson #16s, Cory Wray #69N and Matt Dotson #88D.
I-35 Speedway would like to thank all the drivers and fans for making opening night a success and welcome all back next Saturday Night for more “Dirt Trackin at its Best”
See you there!
