Midway Racing Provides Lots Of Action And New Winners
LEBANON, MO (June 2, 2012) – Night number 8 of the Championship Events was held Saturday Night at the Midway Speedway and the fans were treated to plenty of racing action as two three winners took their first wins of the season in points races.
Shawn Strong made a rare apperance at the track and wasted no time in showing he hasn’t forgot the quick way around the track by leading all 15 laps of the B-Modified feature for his first Midway win of this season.Strong took the opening lead from Cody Nivens and never was headed.Nivens was holding off 2 time champion Jason Otto during the 1st 5 laps as Bill Schaar was making a great run tonight and made it around Otto on lap 6 to move into third place.Following Strong to the finish line was Nivens,Schaar,Tony Moore and Otto.Current track point leader Ted Ballinger could only muster a 8th place finish tonight.
The Factory Stock feature saw 16 drivers compete tonight with many front runners ready to battle.A wild start on lap 1 had track officials restart in a single file start as a crash in the back part of the field saw the opening lap complete as Tim Petty was leading Bob Gustin with another former champion Dylan Keepper in third.On the restart the cars were 2 wide all throughout the field as Petty was still your leader.Gustin the opening night winner took over the lead on lap 3 as Petty had Donnie Miller coming up quickly.Gustin was setting a very fast pace as Miller moved into second place on lap 6.On the 9th lap Miller got around Gustin to take the lead as things started going crazy.Kenny Carroll pulled out of action as Sundance Keepper was coming quickly in the pack along with Brian Schutt,Doug Rich,Mark Simon,Petty and many others.A wild lap 10 saw point leader Brandon Waters out of action as several cars got together.
With Miller still leading and Gustin following Schutt had moved from mid-pack and into third place.A couple of cautions saw the race with only 3 laps remaining as Miller was holding off Schutt and Sundance kepper gaining.Schutt would take the lead over Miller on the final laps to capture his third win with Miller,S Keepper and fast moving Doug Rich and a wild finish and a couple of dis-qualifications placed Mike Murzynski grab a top 5 finish.
A new winner in the Street Stock class had Melvin Smith take the lead from Joe Francis and then Brandon Henderson on lap 3 and held off point leader Mark Simon to take his first of the season.The two Buffalo area rivers always provide lots of action and tonight was no different.Following Smith and Simon to the finish was Joe Francis,Henderson and Matt Darnell.
The Pure Stock class also had a new points feature winner tonight as Tyler Schoen got around point leader Rob White on the final lap to take the win.Rookie Caleb Starnes took the opening lead but gave way to defending champion Matt Young.Schoen moved into the second place spot on lap 4 and put on pressure.On lap 6,Schoen moved in the lead as point leader White was moving up the ladder.Lap 12 would see White take the lead over Schoen.Schoen pulled off the winning pass on thre last lap with White,Young,Monk Barker and Christopher Sawyer in the top 5.
Sam Petty kept his winning ways in the Midwest Modified division but not without some competition.Brother Jamie Petty grabbed the opening lead from the front row for the first 3 laps before giving way to Travis Hill.Hill would lead the next couple of laps as Petty was moving to the front fast.On the 6th lap,Petty grabbed the lead and held off Hill the remaining distance to take his 6th points win of the season as Hill,Jamie Petty,Justin Darby and Troy Young followed.
Midway will be back in action next Saturday night with racing featuring Factory Stocks,B-Modifieds,Pure Stocks,Midwest Modifieds and Street Stocks as Racing begins at 7:30.
