Morton Big Winner In Reliable Chevrolet USRA B-Mod Special At Springfield As Dalton Takes Number 1 With USRA Modifieds

SPRINGFIELD, MO (June 2, 2012) – With over 100 race teams in the pits,it was Reliable Chevrolet Night at the Springfield Raceway for the 3rd Annual B-Modified Special event paying $500 to win plus added money From Reliable and GM Performance along with Yeoman Racing Engines and Babe’s Drive-In.

With 27 entries in the B-Modified class it took 3 heat races and a last chance event to get the starting 20 drivers with alot of talent in the field.Last season’s runner-up in the track points JC Morton of Springfield jumped to the opening lead powered by his GM Performance 602 Crate motor with Jerry Lankton following close in his Yeoman’s Engines as 2-3 wide racing was the call.Morton who lost a feature at Springfield two weeks ago when the power steering belt came off shot to a big lead leaving a great battle for second and beyond.As the leaders were starting to close-in on lapped traffic on lap 20,the only caution flew as Blake Ellis,Sean Williams and Chuck Becker were involved in turn 3.This gave Turkey Classic and March Madness winner Kris Jackson a last shot to overtake Morton,but tonight Morton had the McCoy’s Metal/GM Performance Crate motor dialed-in as held pulled away in the final 2 laps to secure his first win this season at Springfield Raceway as Jackson withstood a strong surge from Jerry Lankton to secure the runner-up spot as Brandon Maggard and Jon Yeoman Jr completed the top 5.Current USRA B-Modified track and National point leader Scott Drake pulled out with problems placing him 14th in the final rundown while last weeks winner and points runner-up Mike Hailman salvaged a 7th place finish as Brandon Maggard keeps coming forward more.In Addition to the $500 to win feature,Morton collected an extra $125 for using a Reliable Chevrolet GM Performance 602 Crate motor while Jackson collected an extra $100 from both Yeoman’s Race Engines and Babes Drive in for being the top finishing spec motor.12 of the scheduled 20 starters finished on the lead lap with 5 Crate and 5 spec motors in the top 10.

In Budweiser USRA Modified action 4 time track champion Jackie Dalton came charging late in the feature and overtook leader Erik Maggard on lap 14 to grab his first win of the season.The early stages saw 2010 Turkey Classic Champion Jody Tillman jump to the early lead with young Corey Weir following closely.Maggard was able to move around Tillman around lap 7 to grab the top spot as current point leader Mitch Keeter followed as 3 wide racing was the action following.Lap 12 would be a turning point in the feature as Bobby Pearish and Brian Green made contact as Green spun.Pearish had fuel pressure issues and pulled-in while Green was able to continue.Jackie Dalton the week 2 point leader was able to pick the top lane on the restart as Keeter picked down low as action behind was tight with Dave Elson,Tillman,Rex Merritt,Weir and John Yeoman battling.On lap 14,Dalton swung to the extreme top groove out of turn 4 and overtook Maggard for the lead.Keeter and Maggard made some contact out of turn 2 and Keeter slowed the following lap with front end damage and ended his night.Dalton survived a late restart from Maggard with Maggard,Elson,Merritt and Tillman the top 5 as 14 of the scheduled 22 starters were on the lead lap.

Casey’s General Stores Midwest Modz action again provided great racing all over.Jordan Green took the opening lead with Mike Cooper having a solid run early.Oklahoma driver Matthew Thulin overtook Green and secured the top spot.Green would see his outstanding run end early and was involved in an incident going into turn 1.Thulin was starting to pull away as 2 wide racing followed.Current point leader and defending champion Trevor Drake used the high line and around lap 9 overtook Thulin as Rusty Forrest was coming quickly along with Taylor Moore,Bobby Gough and Dakota Maggard.Drake would keep the top spot to grab the win as Forrest was coming quickly on the top side to finish behind the winner as Thulin,Moore and Bobby Gough completed the top 5.Nathan Gold had a good run end bad spinning on the last lap while going for a top 5 spot in turn 3 ending the feature under caution as this class has their Rob Burgess Memorial upcoming on later in a special $500 to win event only eligible for Midwest Modified regulars.

Wheeler Metals Legends again show how to go around the “Quick-Quarter” three wide most of the race.The 20 lap feature went caution free as Jay Reynolds grabbed the opening lead quickly.Wayne Johnston,Chuck Comer,Justin Comer were all battling for spots with 3 wide action the call.Current point leader Mike Hailman was behind the wheel of Bill Cottrill’s 43 tonight and began his charge to the top side as normal.Johnston took over the lead from Reynolds as both the Comers were right in the mix.Johnston would pace the field unti around lap 9 when Hailman pulled even with the veteran driver and they were side by side.Hailman,Johnston,Justin Comer and Chuck Comer could have had a blanket thrown around them as they were that tight with Reynolds in the mix also.Hailman would pull away just a bit on lap 12 and take the win with Johnston,J Comer,C Comer and Reynolds the top 5 as 14 of the 17 staters completed the lead lap.

Pepsi Pure Stock action was outstanding as Tanner Sitton took the opening lead from David Moellering early.Philip Schloesser came charging through to overtake Sitton on lap 4 as the feature went caution free.The top 2 in points Jack Hamer and Brett Testerman quietly were coming to the front pack as Testerman took over on lap 6 only to see Schloesser back in front on lap 7.Testeraman came back the following lap as Hamer was in the shawdows waiting.Schloesser’s night went from good to bad as he began to lose power and fell back in the pack.Hamer would try the final 2 laps to get around Testerman but the youngster held on to grab the win as Hamer a fast moving Mitch Hemphill,Sitton and Tyler Thulin completed the top 5 runners.

Current Street Stock point leader Jim Reid grabbed the opening lead and never looked back in taking his second win of the season leaving a great battle for second place.Bob Maggard Sr showed he still knows how to get around the track as he took the famous 124 car to the runner-up spot in his first start of the season with Rex Sawyer,Karla Lampe and Wayne Bysor in the top 5.Points runner-up Wayne Morris jumped the ridge early in a battle for top 3 and fell back and never recovered as the feature went caution free.

The Young Lions Legend Cars saw 3 different leaders in the feature as Grayson Cox took the opening lead looking for his first win of the season.While leading Cox and Weslry Smith made contact in turn 2 sending Cox spinning around and both going to the rear of the pack.Kylan Garner took over the lead and held it for the middle stages of the feature.Garner and Smith went wheel to wheel before Smith took over the lead and secured the win as Garner,Cox and Ty McWhirter followed in this kids under 16 age class.

Next Saturday June 9th the POWER I Midgets return to the Springfield Raceway in the event presented by Green Lawn Funeral Homes of Springfield The top regional and National Midget Drivers will be in action including current point leader Brett Anderson of Belleville,ILL,19 year old Andrew Felker of Carl Junction,Mo,Springfield’s Pat Schudy,Chris Bell of Norman,Oklahoma,Jake Blackhurst of Mapleton,ILL and many others.Last season Brad Loyet took to the top groove at Springfield and overtook Felker to take the win as 2 and 3 wide racing kept everyone wondering as to the outcome. Action will also feature USRA Modifieds,B-Modifieds,Midwest Modz,Legend Cars,Pure Stocks and Street Stocks in round 7 of the Transport Graphics Championship Chase of 2012.

Grandstands open at 5PM with hot laps starting at 6PM and Racing at 7PM.Grandstand Admission will be $17 for Adults in this special event while kids 6-12 are only $5.Pit passes will be $30 for this event.Pit Gates are Tentatively scheduled to open around 3:30.
