New Pella Corp JDRF benefit revs up at Knoxville Raceway June 2
PELLA, IOWA (May 22, 2012) — Pella Windows and Doors is teaming up with Knoxville Raceway in a new way to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).
“Join us for Pella Corporation and JDRF are racing to a cure for diabetes night June 2 at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, to experience fast-paced sprint car racing action and support JDRF,” said Carla Vander Molen, who chairs Pella’s Human Resources Employee Services activities team.
For each $15 adult general admission purchased that night with the Pella Corp/JDRF coupon, the raceway will donate $5 to the Greater Iowa JDRF Chapter to help fund type 1 diabetes research. Those adults using the Pella Corp/JDRF coupon June 2 will also earn free admission that night for their toddlers and school-aged children. Coupons are available in advance during regular weekday business hours at the Greater Iowa JDRF office at 3580 EP True Parkway in West Des Moines, Iowa, or online at: www.jdrf.org/GreaterIowa.
The family-oriented evening includes free balloon sculptures for kids created by Tom Terrific the Balloon Man, outside the grandstand ticket office on race night. Grandstands open at 6 p.m., with racing revving up at 6:45 p.m.
Plus, the track will host a pre-race barbecue served by the Knoxville Rotary® club, with proceeds going directly to JDRF. Suggested donation is $5 per person.
“As you eat in the fairgrounds’ Dyer-Hudson building before the races from 5:30-7 p.m. you’ll also enjoy the satisfaction of knowing you’re helping a great cause — JDRF,” Vander Molen said.
The Pella Windows and Doors team has raised more than $1.8 million for JDRF since 2003 across the country.
“By dedicating our annual Pella Windows and Doors night at Knoxville Raceway to JDRF, we’re rallying race fans to help raise even more money for diabetes research,” said Pella activities team event organizer Troy VandeKamp.
In addition to regular sprint car racing action, June 2 marks the annual National Sprint Car Hall of Fame and Museum (NSCHoF) induction weekend activities at Knoxville, honoring legendary figures in the sport’s history.
“Spend the day in Knoxville, and take in the induction ceremony and Pella Rolscreen® Hall of Fame at the museum before the races,” said VandeKamp. “It’s a tribute to the men and women who’ve made the sport what it is today-from drivers to mechanics to promoters to officials, you’ll appreciate the sport’s rich history as you enjoy the unique memorabilia, movies and more inside the one-of-a-kind museum,” he said.
This marks the first time Pella and the raceway have teamed up to raise money for the Greater Iowa Chapter of JDRF. In the event of a rainout June 2, the Pella/JDRF night rain date rolls to June 16.
