New point leader for Hawkeye Dirt Tour show at Algona
ALGONA, Iowa (June 28) – New point leader Jeremy Mills heads the list of IMCA Modified sluggers headed to Algona Raceway for the Tuesday, July 3 JR Motorsports Hawkeye Dirt Tour event.
From Garner, Mills took over the top spot in the standings with a third place finish in the tour feature at Buena Vista Raceway. He’s now nine points ahead of previous leader Richie Gustin of Gilman, who was part of a four-car tangle and was unable to finish the Alta show. Darin Duffy of Hazleton, Jay Noteboom of Hinton and defending champion Mark Elliott of Webster City complete the top five in the point race. Tuesday’s main event pays $1,000 to win, a minimum of $150 to start and is a Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Belleville Motor sports North Central Region and Allstar Performance State points, as well as special series points, will be given and filming for the Fuel The Thunder 2 documentary series continues. Pit gates open at 4:30 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5:30 p.m. Hot laps are at 6:30 p.m. with racing to follow. Spectator admission is $15 for adults, $5 for kids ages 6-12 and free for five and under. Pit passes are $25. Also on the card at Algona are IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars running for $750 to win and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, both running for $500 to win. A draw/redraw format will be in place for all three divisions and all applicable points will be awarded. The track website is www.algonaraceway.com. One hundred different drivers have competed at one or more of the first six series events. Feature winners thus far include Jeff Waterman of Quincy, Ill., Mike Hansen of Alton, Mills, Milo Veloz Jr. of Colona, Ill., Elliott and Noteboom.
