DAVENPORT, Ia. (September 21, 2018) – Andy Nezworski of Buffalo, nailed down the big prize at the Iowa Governor’s Cup, held Friday at the Davenport Speedway. Nezworski led all forty laps of the Deery Brothers Summer Series Late Model feature to capture the victory. It was the third Deery Brothers win of his racing career.

Nezworski started the main outside of pole sitter Luke Goedert and took the lead just before they completed the first lap. Andy also led every lap of his heat race.

Chuck Hanna was able to put some pressure on Nezworski in the final ten laps of the race but slipped up out of the bottom groove on the final lap and slid back to fourth. Justin Kay and Ryan Dolan each moved up a spot to finish second and third respectively. Tyler Bruening qualified through a B-Main and rounded out the top five.

Over forty late models were on hand to battle in the Deery Brothers Summer Series season finale. Five heats and two B-Mains were needed to qualify the field for the feature. Heat race wins went to Luke Goedert, Chuck Hanna, Nezworski, Richie Gustin, and Chad Holladay. Tyler Bruening and Andy Eckrich won B-Mains.

Justin Kay was one of five drivers doing double duty and topped his night with a win in the IMCA Modified feature. Brandon Durbin led the mod main from the drop of the green, but a caution flag with four laps to go, reset the field. On lap eighteen, Kay would pass Durbin and drive on to the win.

Darin Duffy, who was second at the time of the caution flag, would finish second with Durbin holding on for third. Austin Moyer and Kelly Meyer finished fourth and fifth respectively.

Like the Late Models, more than forty mods were in the pits. Kay, Moyer, Tony VonDresky, and Joel Callahan won heat races. Steve Johnson and Chris Zogg won the semis.

Jeff Struck Jr. won his ninth Davenport feature of the year in Street Stock action. Struck led every lap in a race that went green, white, checkered. Joe Bonney came from mid-pack to finish second. Gene Ehlers took third ahead of George Spence III and Cary Brown in that order.

Tyler Soppe won the SportMod feature. Soppe started third and led every lap en route to the win. Tony Olson started sixth and advanced his way up to second. Gage Neal, Jarrett Franzen, and Austen Becerra completed the top five.

In all, one hundred and thirty-eight cars competed in the four classes, of the 2018 Iowa Governor’s Cup.

Only one event remains on the 2018 schedule for the Davenport Speedway. The Night of Destruction will be held on Saturday, September 29th. The N.o.D. is highlighted by Cheater Races for the Modified, SportMod, and 4-Stock classes, the Sheet Metal Showdown for Street Stocks, and the fan favorite – Trailer Race. Pit gates open at 3:30pm, with hotlaps at 5:30pm and racing to follow.
