Only three races remain this season at I-35 Speedway

WINSTON, MO (October 5, 2024) – Only three races remain this season at I-35 Speedway as another grain of sand slips through the hourglass, and the action is just picking up. Last night, October 5th, 2024, was marked by several first-time winners and $850 dollars given away in cash and prizes in the Dash “4” Cash at intermission! Intermission also included the awarding of the Central Auto Racing Boosters Larry Kaster Driver Appreciation Award to several drivers by his family. It was a special night, now onto the action.

E-Mods rolled out onto the track first, and it was a wild one. Several cautions throughout the field, mostly single car incidents including two big time contenders in Tony Layne and Kameron Haynes. Casey Burnett would be able to pull away in the closing laps shootout to win his ninth feature of the year.

In Pure Stocks consistent top five finisher Clint Baker finally got over the hump and passed Jake Starmer, who appeared to be pulling away early, for the lead. Starmer would start to drift back allowing Jakub Hisel and Gavin Grier to pass for second and third respectively.

In Jr Sport Compacts Grant Sheetz would pull away early but trouble for JR Curtis would bring out the caution and bunch the field. Emma Mather would make a late charge but an amazing save by Grant Sheetz in turn two would allow him to hold on for the win.

In Late Models in looked like a story we’ve seen before, with Tyler Hibner pulling away early. Last weeks feature winner Mark Dotson was gone this week and it looked like Hibner would cruise to another victory, but Tommy Cordray would have something to say about it. Great driving between both drivers late would lead to Cordray passing Hibner and holding on for his first feature win of the year.

Eric Schmidt was about 5-6 feet from a feature win last week, and he would extend that substantially pulling away to a dominant win in Sports Compacts. Points leader Brad Mick may have been able to make a run, but him and several other familiar faces like Alvin Cooney and David Miller were at a race in Oklahoma.

In USRA B Mods Adam Dunwoodie would lead most of the race but certainly had his hands full in Jake Richards and Tyler Cadwallader throughout the race. Dunwoodie would hold on to win his fifth feature win of the year.

We weren’t done with first time winners just yet as the USRA Medieval Stock Cars rolled out. Scott Carlson started hot, but some cautions would bunch the field and allow Jeff Dixon to get around for the lead. Kristchon Hisel would also get by for second and make a run at Dixon, but Dixon would hold on for his first feature win of the year.

After an 18-karat run of bad luck, Houston Johnson was back in victory lane at I-35 Speedway. Johnson would get the lead early and through several cautions both Lee and Tyler Hibner would throw everything and the kitchen sink at the 97, but throughout it all he was able to hang on and break his winless streak here at I-35 Speedway.

It was another great night of racing, and we still have three more to go as we race until the end of October! As always thank you to the drivers, sponsors, track officials and crew, and of course the fans for another great night of racing. Also, a special thank you to Mike Johnson for repainting the backstretch wall and tires in the corners, and of course for all him and Kyle do for the track.

Thank you to Tony our electrician and overall handyman for working quickly through intermission on some trouble with the caution lights so we could go back racing as fast as possible. Next week is our Trick or Treat night, with costume contests including best in show and free candy for kids 12 and under. There will also be a croc charm giveaway with croc bracelets for sale at the Beer Shack. Bring out the family for some fun and some on track action, full results posted below, and we’ll see you all next week!
