Open Wheel Shootout set for May 30 at Independence Motor Speedway
INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (May 25, 2014) – The Brockway Mechanical & Roofing Sprint Invaders will headline the Open Wheel Shootout this Friday, May 30 at Independence Motor Speedway.
The 360 Sprint tour will be making its second annual stop as part of the event, which features three divisions of open wheel cars. Modifieds and Northern SportMods will also compete under IMCA rules in a draw/redraw format, however they will not be sanctioned.
Terry McCarl topped a field of 24 cars in last year’s Sprint Invaders visit in Independence, the first Sprint Car race at the speedway in nearly 20 years. Troy Cordes was the Modified winner and Brennen Chipp won in SportMods.
The Sprint Invaders will compete for a $1,200 winner’s share, the Modifieds $500-to-win and the SportMods $300-to-win.
Grandstand and pit gates open at 5 p.m. on May 30, with a drivers’ meeting at 6:30, hot laps at 6:45 and racing to follow.
Grandstand admission for that event is $15 for adults and $13 for seniors and students. Kids ages 11 and under will be admitted free if accompanying a paid adult. Pit passes are $30. There will be no entry fee for the Modifieds or SportMods. IMCA licenses are not required for drivers competing Friday night.
The Open Wheel Shootout will be the first of two straight days of racing in Independence. Weekly racing will be held the following night, May 31, featuring IMCA sanctioned Late Models, Modifieds, Stock Cars, Northern SportMods and Hobby Stocks.
On May 31, grandstand and pit gates open at 4 p.m., with hot laps at 6 and racing to follow.
Grandstand admission for weekly racing is $10 for adults and $8 for seniors and students. Kids ages 11 and under will be admitted free with a paid adult. Pit passes are $25.
