Points Extremely Tight as Show Me 100 Nears
Wheatland, MO (May 15, 2013) – With just a few days left before the running of the prestigious Lucas Oil Show Me 100 Presented by Protect the Harvest, Lucas Oil MLRA teams are busy making final preparations before hitting Lucas Oil Speedway, next Thursday night, May 23rd, for a $5,000 to win Lucas Oil MLRA race.
The points battle is extremely tight and the top two heading into Saturday night’s 100 lap Show Me 100 feature will be guaranteed starting spots. Will Vaught is currently out front, and a good finish Thursday will lock him into the show with the first provisional, though he is likely race his way in on Friday. Positions two through four are another story though, and Thursday’s performance will have a big impact on how the second provisional will be awarded. There are only nine markers separating second place Brad Looney and fourth place John Anderson. Terry Phillips is right between the two veterans in third, just six points behind Looney.
Under a new point structure in 2013, the top five finishers in the heat races are awarded championship points, with the winner earning 10 points. A two point drop in the remaining four positions is how the balance is calculated. This is addition to the A Feature point structure, which is unchanged from previous seasons.
There will be a new incentive for Lucas Oil MLRA competitors though. Every driver who signs in to compete in the $30,000 to win race, will be given 25 appearance points. Lucas Oil MLRA regulars, who race their way into Saturday night’s field will be awarded an additional 15 points, and the two who utilize the series provisionals will be rewarded with 10 additional points.
The weekend promises to be one of the best of the entire season as the race will again be filmed for CBS television. Reserved tickets are on sale and going fast. Visit LucasOilSpeedway.com for more information or call the track office at 417 282 5984.
