WINSTON, MO (May 17, 2014) – Grand National make up feature from May 10, 2014 started off the nights activities with a bang.  Buz Kaster #54 from a front row starting position would lead every lap on his way to his second victory of 2014.  The two battling brother Houston and Austin Johnson would race each other hard with younger brother Houston Johnson #97 edging out older sibling Austin Johnson #98 to place second, leaving the elder in third.  Marty Powell #9p would have another consistent feature to finish fourth, as Dave Petty Jr. #46 placed fifth.  The heat race winner was Donnie Brown #26.

The second Grand National feature of the night would witness the dueling brothers at it again this time for the top spot.  Houston Johnson #97 would use the pole starting spot to his advantage to take an early lead and never look back picking up the feature win.  Austin Johnson #98 would attempt to run down the speedy Houston to no avail and would settle for second.  Heat race winner Don Marrs #9 would race his way through the pack to place third as Buz Kaster #54 would finish fourth.  Marty Powell #9p would again have a solid fifth place finish.  The Best Looking Car Award went to #46 of Dave Petty Jr.

USRA Stock Cars never disappoint at they took to the 3/8 mile for their make-up feature.  Thomas Roberts #65x would thread the needle off turn two to take the lead early and drive away to victory number 67 in his illustrious career.  Moving up from the Hobby Stocks only a few weeks prior Billie Hoover #21h continues to impress with a great second place finish.  Jeff Dixon #88 would slip by point leader Dean Wray #77 to place third, moving Wray to fourth.  Richard Moulton #18 would finish a solid fifth.  Heat race winners were Billie Hoover #21h and John Crews #12c.

In the USRA Stock Car feature of the night Thomas Roberts #65x would pull off the dual victories of the night, raising his total overall wins to 68.  Dean Wray #77 and Brett Heeter #05 would battle door handle to door handle in the final laps with Wray second.  Brett Heeter would come from the last starting spot, passing cars high and low, to finish in an impressive third.  Richard Moulton #18 continues to improve each week as he would run second for many early laps only to fade late to place a solid fourth.  John Crews #12c, after picking up the Best Looking Car Award earlier, would finish fifth.  Heat Race winners were Thomas Roberts #65x and John Crews #12c.

In their second week of racing action at I-35 Speedway the familiar face of Bobby Layne #01 would honor his late father Elmer Layne earning the night’s top spot.  Mark K. Billing #51 would challenge Layne only to fall a little short and place second.  Heat race winner Mark Billings #60e, with a very fast race car, would hold off the late race challenge of Tom Brown #b20 to finish third, leaving Brown in fourth.  Luke McGee #13, after winning his heat race, would round out the top five.

An emotional victory lane for the USRA B-Mod class would see Yancy Shepard, driving the Mike Tanner prepared #20y, race his way to the win.  Early race leader Jim Cameron #96c would have to take evasive action while dealing with lap traffic and slip to place second.  Doug Keller #7k would race his way to another top three finishing spot, as he would come home third.  Gene Claxton #42 and point leader Chad Clancy #21c would battle side by side for fourth and fifth, with Claxton edging out Clancy.  B- Feature winner Chad Clancy, would race his way from the back of the field to finish the impressive fifth.  Heat race winners included Randy Ainsworth #57, Doug Keller #7k, Chad Feather #11c, and Jim Cameron #96c.  The Best Looking Car Award in the B-Mod class went to Jayden Bears #20j.

On a near perfect track the fire breathing, high flying, USRA Modifieds put on quite a Spectacular show.  Kerry Davis #68 would jump out to an early lead, holding off all challengers until the second to last lap, where Issac Dotson #67d would use the extreme high line to pass Davis and claim the night’s victory.  Davis who ran a flawless race would come home runner-up in second place.  Point leader Zach Sanders #69 would contend the entire race only to fall short and finish third.  The always consistent Dennis Elliott #29 would work his way around traffic to finish fourth, with Trevor Hunt #99h finishing in the fifth spot.  Heat race winners were Issac Dotson #67d and Trevor Hunt #99h.  The Best Looking Car Award would go to Tyler Grooms #92.

I-35 Speedway would like to thank our drivers for putting on a spectacular show.  We would also like to thank our fans for their continued support.  We would like to personally thank Randy Ainsworth, Mike Nelson, and Allen Staley for entertaining us with the raw egg toss during Intermission activities.  Next week we will see who the best fisherman is, as we set the buckets up and let the fans cast for prizes.  See everyone next week for more “Dirt Trackin at its Best”.
